Khaled Hosseini: A Thousand Splendid Suns

I'm definitely looking forward to reading this one. But I think I'll wait till it's available in the library!

Jonathan Safran Foer: Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close

I had around 5 more chapters to go, but I had to return the book since it was loaned. I stopped reading at the point where Oskar met his grandfather in his grandmother's house. So could somebody please help me by spoiling what happened in the end?

    José Saramago: Blindness

Thank you for the clarification. :) I'll put Blindness aside (and accept the ending) and keep in mind your suggestion to read Seeing as a great novel!

Suggestions: July Book of the Month **Themed Month - "Beach Reads"**

A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby: In his fourth novel, New York Times-bestselling author Nick Hornby mines the hearts and psyches of four lost souls who connect just when they've reached the end of the line. Meet four people who ended up in London on the same roof on New Year's Eve --...

    José Saramago: Blindness

Just finished reading this. Disturbing with some explicit scenes. One thing that bothered me is that a story needs to have a proper conclusion and this one didn't. The reason we read a book is to know why it happened. But no, Jose Saramago decided to reason it out in Seeing. (which I would...

    Jane Austen

Which novel of hers should I pick up next after P&P? Suggestions please.

    Salman Rushdie

I would love to explore his work but I'd need a little more information about him. How would you describe Salman Rushdie's work, anybody? Does he write in any particular genre?

    When do you read?

As for me, early in the morning and late at night. Just after waking up and just before sleeping. Surrounding would be quiet, so it's very conducive for my reading. I wouldn't be able to concentrate if I have some little time to spare in between doing things.

How about Sam's Letters To Jennifer by James Patterson? Book Description: James Patterson's #1 New York Times bestseller combines two unforgettable love stories in a novel that's impossible to put down. Jennifer returns to the resort village where she grew up to help her ailing, beloved...

Alice Sebold: The Lovely Bones *spoilers*

It's refreshing to tell the story in the perspective of a murdered girl in heaven. That captured me to read it. But I was disappointed with the handling of the back-to-earth part. It would have been more appropriate if her purpose was to help her family members whose life were...

    March Reads

My March list in order of preference: The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini - Full of emotions. You can feel various emotions throughout the story. Some disturbing scenes but generally powerful. My best book. Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson - Very sweet relationship...

50 Words or Less: Turn your head and write

Peace and quiet. An ambience perfect to be fully immersed in another world. The blue spine on the bookshelf is awaiting to be picked up. A gentle brush sent a tinge of excitement through the fingers. For now, rest a while more. A voice beckons and I'm back to reality.

    Yann Martel: Life of Pi

I've not read this thread fully yet but for your information, I've just abandoned Life of Pi. I love the beginning of the story. The description of the sloth is so adorable. That grabbed me to read further. And when it came to religion, -the part where I found out some other members had problems...

Suggestions: May 2007 Book of the Month.

Queen of Dreams by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni From the inside flap: In her most spellbinding novel yet, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni spins a fresh, enchanting story of transformation that is as lyrical as it is dramatic. Rakhi, a young artist and divorced mother living in Berkeley...

    Books you didn't finish

The first book I remembered that I did not continue is This Side of Married by Rachel Pastan. I quote from the front cover: "Jane Austen’s honey-and-vinegar spirit is alive and well in Rachel Pastan’s delightful novel." I do not understand why it was compared with Jane Austen. I love Jane Austen...
