I write for myself and get more of a buzz from the characters than the plot. They have been inside my head for so long that I now feel entitled to get inside theirs. I leave it up to them to develop their own stories. i.e. I confront them with an issue/conflict and, by knowing them...
Assuming the girl in your sig. photo is your girlfriend, how does she describe the colour of her hair (which is lovely, btw).
I'm always looking for ways to describe varying shades of brown, as I find it so bo-o-o-o-ring reading, or writing, about characters having predictable blonde or...
Ha! A paper weight! :D
2nd question. This is hard to explain, but if you get hold of a small paperback, and (with it closed) look down on the pages from the top, the pages appear to be stuck into the spine as if they are all glued in as one pile. But if you look at most hardbacks, or the...
Second question (Seeing it's Saturday) ;)
Are there any Chinese/Chinese speakers who could provide a name for a Chinese girl, which means smart/bright/intelligent?
Thank you :)
Third Man Girl
Is there a word to describe the thickness of a page (i.e. the thickness of the paper)? Density, grade, or whatever?
Also, is there a way to describe the way some pages are bound into large books in sheaves?
Descriptions - aagh
Third Man Girl
Reference. It's mainly to help out when I'm reading other books, (Possession by AS Byatt, at the moment).
To be fair, the dictionary is probably adequate, but I like having books around :)
Thanks for the quick response
Third Man Girl

Can anyone recommend a reference book of Greek and Roman mythology? Not something to wade through, just to dabble in from time to time.
And if anyone possesses such a book, or a decent memory, can you tell me which...
Probably 150 words per hour, i.e. 1000 words per day, on average, but I rarely have a full day. Real life interferes.
The same characters have been clowning about inside my head for most of my adult life (replacing a childhood imaginary herd of horses :) ) - I decided it was time they...
Thanks again, Ashlea. I'll stick with 'butt' ;)
BTW. I have a friend who is an air traffic controller. He told me once, in all seriousness (he's a serious type of guy - not the kind you would discuss butts with), that he and his colleagues have more difficulty communicating with Americans...
Re: Charmed Sphere - Catherine Asaro
C'mon Ashlea, I'm trying to write a long story, which'll take me ten years because I've got too many characters and can't bear to knock 'em on the head. I don't have a degree in anything.
YOU ARE MY MENTOR! You're the only one who answers my writing...
