    Concentration while reading

If I wasted valuable time faffing around doing all that kind of stuff I would be wasting what precious little time I have got to read.

    Great sea stories?

Go for "Moby Dick" and then read "In the Heart of the Sea" by Nathaniel Philbrick. This is the story which inspired Melville. Not as much a classic but much easier to get through. A real page turner.

What is your fave "children's" lit?

Narnia's still on top I've just read "The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe" to my six year old. It brought back all the enjoyment it gave me as a ten year old when I first started reading to myself. I'm not sure who enjoyed it the most but we'll soon be starting on "The Magicians Nephew." I must...

    inspire a young reader

When I was ten I read and reread all of the "Narnia Chronicles" by C.S.Lewis, couldn't put them down. Knocks spots off Harry Potter I reckon.

    E L Doctorow

Has anyone read "The City of God" by E. L. Doctorow? I'm halfway through reading it for the second time, parts of it are really good, but I seem to be missing something.

Mark Haddon: The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Nighttime

The narrative is "the way it is" because it's supposed to seem as if it's written by a 15 year old with Aspergers and to me is by no means annoying. I can't see it taking many train journeys unless you read incredibly slowly.

Joseph O'Connor: Star Of The Sea

I like the sound of this book I'll definately give it a go. If you're into nautical stuff you'll enjoy " The heart of the sea" by Nathenial Philbrick. I have'nt time for a full review but basically it's about the whalers out of Nantukett.Unforgetable!

    Web help please

Thanks ,I have looked at E-Bay . This is what prompted me to find another site. I spotted three C S Lewis Narnia books , one was a 1st edition but in fairly average condition .I thought maybe there might be a more specialised site.

    Ask Me Anything ...

Correct. I've just been looking at 1950s copies on E-Bay .My son is 5 1/2 and I'd love to get him into Narnia before Hogwarts.Do you think maybe it's too young. I have'nt read any Harry Potter yet but it would have to be pretty good to get anywhere near Peter ,Susan ,Lucy and Edmund.

    Anna Karenina

Anna would have been a complete nightmare of a wife . Selfish, jealous ,pretentious. She adored the idea of being outcast from "her "society as long as Vronsky remained with her and her alone and never crossed the line back to his idea of his perfect life . This is why she took the selfish...

    I just finished reading...

I had the same thoughts as you ,wanting George to go free. Try 'The Grapes Of Wrath,' it's probably one of my favourites, beautifully written and very heart rending by the end.l
