LOL... Welcome!
I am only here since yesterday myself, and I like it. :)
Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. It is wholesome and bracing for the mind to have its faculties kept on the stretch.

Yeah, I agree with you, Ashley. Both that many books often will not be understood until one is older and more mature, and a good teacher can help appreciate such a book even earlier.
On the other hand, analyzing a book to death and having to read it to study for the tests definitely turns one...
Thanks for the welcome, Kaz, Martin! :)
What I am reading right now?.. Well, I just got a bunch of books from other bookcrossers; have to choose what to read in what order.
In the past few days I have read "The Treasure Box" by Orson Scott Card, "Moonsinger's Friends: in honor of...
Martin, your signature quote makes me think. I like it. While we are on the subject of quotes... :)
I think it would be a good idea.
----- Mahatma Ghandi, when asked by a reporter for his opinion of western civilization
When I hear somebody sigh, "Life is hard," I am always tempted to...
I am going to have to think about all that was said in this thread. A lot of books mentioned, and 'what are the classics' issue brought up.
It was very interesting to see something: I became more conscious of the fact that as we grow up, I am not the only one who tries to read/check out...
Of the ones I've read and can think of right now, besides those mentioned already:
Tamora Pierce - young adult fantasy
Diane Duane - young adult science fiction
Anne of Green Gables and Little Women were mentioned already, so... Can't think of anyone else at the moment.
Oh, sorry...
Tamora Pierce's books
I love Tamora Pierce's books! I actually like these series more:
--Wild Magic - about a girl with a special bond with animals, and the adventures as she meets the people from Alanna's books.
--Protector of the Small - about a girl who becomes a knight - that follows...

I prefer following the rules, when they make sense to me, so here is my introduction.
I live in NY, USA. Read mostly fantasy - Mercedes lackey, Anne McCaffrey, Christopher Stasheff, David Eddings. Young adult fantasy - Tamora Pierce.
Other subjects I have an interest in are psychology and...
Yeah, I know what you mean. I generally buy her staff used; I just can't afford to buy new books. I read Exile's Honor in the library, but I don't think mine has Exile's Valor yet. And I just don't have the opportunity now to get away and read it in the store like Barnes and Noble...
That's supposed to be a romance novel with a woman hero and fantasy together, I think.
Actually, The Fire Rose (which happens to be my favorite one too) is based on a fairy tale - Beauty and the Beast.
This one is also based on a fairy tale - Snow White and the Seven Dwarves in this...
Mercedes Lackey - Exile's Honor
The sequel to that - Exile's Valor - is out already over a month. And I still didn't get a chance to read it! Exile's Honor is great; it was quite interesting to see Alberich's background. I want to reread it;hmm, I want to have my own copy. :)
Anyway - this is...
