I have a few signed books, but I bought them off Ebay. Working in a bookstore I have also attended quite a few book signings, the only memorable one being when Billy Bob Thornton did a signing with the screenplay for Sling Blade.
His mom is a fortune teller in our town and buys a good...
Haven't heard of the wind on fire, but I love Lemony Snickett. The recently released an "Unauthorized" biography of Lemony Snickett which I haven't read yet but have heard is hilarious.
Another children's series that I just thought of is Redwall. Can't believe no one's mentioned it yet. I...
I read entirely too fast. It's both a blessing and a curse, in that I get to find out what happens quickly but then when I'm done I'm left sitting around looking for a new book to read.
I'm not sure how many pages I read an hour and such, but I recently read Memoirs of Cleopatra by...
The Golden Compass books are the ones I mentioned earlier, His Dark Materials. They were very engrossing, I read all three books in about two weeks, but found the subject matter a bit complicated for pre-teens and even young teenagers. The history of theology and its interpretation is...
I LOVE the Neverending story!!!! I first saw the movies when I was young, there was a third one too, but it didn't have Sebastian so I didn't watch it. I didn't even realize they were from a real book until I was about fifteen, strange for a child raised on a steady diet of reading, so I...
I actually did try audio books for a while, but I just couldn't get into the book. Too many distractions while driving caused me to miss parts of the story and such. For now my snatch reading of short pieces during my commute is working well. I promise I'm not speeding down the road with...
It's not that bad, I promise. My commute is on the interstate, and I put whatever I'm reading down if traffic ever starts really moving. I do have a professor who got pulled over because a trooper saw her reading while going 75. But I haven't gotten that skilled at it yet.
Just wanted to let you know I share your frustration with publisher's categories, not only between fiction and non but within the categories of fiction, art, social science, etc.
We just had a store reset at the bookstore where I work and so many of the stickers on the backs of the books put...
I read every day, far too much. My typical daily reading schedule:
Drive to class(45 minutes): Read papers and class materials while driving all over the road
Classtime(3 hours-5 hours): Read class materials, nonfiction related to class
Work(7 hours): Read fiction between customers...
I still read the Chronicles of Narnia all the time. I can never decide which one is my favorite.
Another great children's series to reread is the Prydain Chronicle by Lloyd Alexander. I've lately devoted myself to rereading and reading new children's books in order to provide my younger...
Hi
Glad to have found an interesting forum. I am 22, in my last semester of undergraduate study. As a history major, I naturally read many nonfiction books, my favorite authors among those being Alison Weir. I also work at a bookstore, so I am constantly reading two or three books at...
