Check out Unicorn Mountain by Michael Bishop. I read it in high school and loved it, and the author actually lives in the town I grew up in. Unfortunately, his son was one of those killed in the Virginia Tech shooting. Here is a little blurb about the book: When Bo Gavin returns to his cousin...

When should I let my husband read the novel I'm working on?

When do you guys think it is best to show your writing to someone, in this case my husband? He would like to read what I have so far but for some reason I seem to remember Stephen King saying in his book On Writing not to do that for awhile, but of course I can't remember his recommended waiting...

Laugh Out Loud Audiobook for Couples with some Edge?

Christopher Moore is supposed to be hilarious, both my mom and best friend love him. I doubt it will be cheesy, it sounds like the author is a major smart*ss. I got several books by David Sedaris before a road trip to New Orleans--AMAZING. I knew his stories were funny because I have the books...

    Genre question from a newbie!

Although it isn't straight romance by ANY stretch, and although it is in diary form, The Diary of Anne Frank comes to mind. I have read several holocaust/WWII memoirs that have some romance in them, like Alicia: My Story by Alicia Appleman-Jurman.

    Good quality thrillers,detectives,

Since you like Laurence Shames have you tried any Carl Hiaasen, Tim Dorsey or Dave Barry? They're all up the same alley, and John MacDonald is on my list because I've heard he is too. You should also try Chiefs by Stuart Woods.
