    Angst Aversion

Hi. Welcome to the site. I'll start by answering your question with a question: Can you give us some examples of books you read and liked that fit the above description?

Mom refuses to return young adult books

Bill collector? What that library needs is a repossession team. (And she already let them know where the books are hidden.)

JK Rowling being sued for plagiarism

Poor Rowling--she plagiarized for her first book, then was on the spot to come up with more on her own. To her credit, she did (with the help of a committee of editors). But her foot in the door into the publishing world was plagiarism. Wizard's Hall is available for $6.95 and it's 144...

Google: We will bring books back to life

That is beyond awesome! You know those book-review cliches about writing so vivid it jumps off the page? Now it's true!

    Transparent Tape Removal

I guess it would be the right forum if it's a book of historical fiction. If the paper really is rag, then you're lucky. By 1905, a lot of paper was already acidic wood pulp that gets brittle and discolored. The paper ages differently under the tape, so you end up with a shadow where the...

    Ideas

But wait--if you're writing a few pages, that means you're coming up with ideas. It's just that then you don't know where to take them. Not only that, but you want to write short stories; well, stories are only a few pages long, so it sounds like you're taking too much time getting into your...

Wrong book sent by barnes and noble!

Even if they'd sent the right title, do we really want to write fiction for dummies? I try to write for somewhat literate people with discretionary income.

Last Train From Hiroshima has been halted

Let's hope publishers don't run with that idea. "Hey--it's electronic. We don't have to fact-check it now--if some jerk wants to point out a problem 'cause they have nothing better to do, we can just edit it like the mistake never happened."

Last Train From Hiroshima has been halted

I see. And printing 18,000 copies of a book and then pulping them is a model of efficiency?

John Scalzi - Everything I Need to Know About Winter I Learned From SciFi Movies

Books burn fast and make a lot of smoke.* The hardwood furniture (and the NYPL does have lovely hardwood furniture) would have been much more efficient for a survival fire. Actually, I got the flame-thrower attachment for mine. *I won't tell you how I know this.

    Happy Birthday Eva!

Thanks! The snowboarders who still have free run of our hilly street are a sign that we aren't out from the snow yet.

Google: We will bring books back to life

As a librarian, here's the passage in Google's proclamation that I take exception to: "They are hard for people to find unless they know exactly what they are looking for" -- The catalogs of some of the world's biggest libraries are now searchable online, as are many other finding aids. Or...

JK Rowling being sued for plagiarism

I suggest that everybody read Wizard Hall by Jane Yolen. Though Yolen has never taken legal action against Rowling, the similarities between Wizard Hall and the first Harry Potter book are damning for Rowling. She hasn't lost a plagiarism suit yet, but the Potter series was nevertheless born...

    Happy Birthday Eva!

Thanks! My birthday might not have been as exciting as Bruce Lee's, but it was a nice day. Since my job with the federal government is definitely non-essential, I was home from work yesterday and played in the snow. We hardly ever get snowfalls here big enough to count.

This is the title of a thread that links to somebody else's humor

This sentence may strike some as slightly defensive, but manages to be good-natured at the same time.

    stupidest movie ever

Plan 9 is one of my favorite movies, in the bad movie escapism sense, of course. I won't be seeing the remake, however. It looks bad, but not bad enough.
