I haven't read anything by Catherine Cookson for years now. I find them a bit light for my current taste.
However, I do have fond memories of reading The Mallen Trilogy (I think they were called 'The Mallen Girl', 'The Mallen Streak' and 'The Mallen Litter'. I've no idea which order they...
I do quite enjoy reading books with larger print. I like to read in bed before I fall asleep, and I've fallen asleep so many times wearing glasses that I'm continually bending them out of shape!
I agree with Astralknight; I'm sure audio books serve a good purpose if you have to go on a long drive, but that seldom is the case with me.
I did try one once, unintentionally. I'd ordered a book on-line from my local library, and without realising I'd ordered the audio version. Rather...
I'd love to hear if there are any other fans of Keith Ablow here.
I absolutely adore his books; they're very fast-paced, graphic, and full of psychological insight to his characters. You get the feeling that if you were to have a half-hour hour discussion with him, by the end of it, he...
That's a fair comment, and I think I would have to agree with you on the example that you gave. I'm not a big JC fan either, but wouldn't mind seeing the film.
On the whole though, especially with fiction, I'd choose the book every time. I always feel that with films, too much of the work...
WOW! I think I'm going to have to move to NYC! The ONLY bookstore I have within 20 miles is Books-a-Million. I have to travel 50 miles to get to a decent bookstore.
Needless to say, I'm a very demanding member of my local library!
To me reading fiction is escapism. It allows me the opportunity to have an insight into other people's lives, experience other countries, cultures, professions and gives me the opportunity to experience things that I never could in my own life.
But, apart from that, the quality of TV...
Thanks Pontalba. As you say, it's much nicer to be able to really look through a book before purchasing. I have used Amazon too and must say I'm very impressed with their speed of service.
With Borders, it's not only the volume of fiction that they carry that I find impressive, but they...
Since I've lived here in the US, I much prefer Borders. I find Books-a-Million to be a 'browsers's bookstore' and not so much a 'reader's bookstore'.
In England, I found that W H Smiths had the best selection of fiction.
I've just joined this forum today, and I'm just SO relieved; For years I've always thought my love of books was somewhat unusual, and now I find that I'm not alone!
Of course I catalogue what books I've read. This probably does sound crazy to someone who reads a book a year, but when you...
I thought Intensity was the scariest book I've ever read too. But, to be fair, I think women would probably find it more so than men.
At the time I read it, my husband was away on business for a few days, it was dark out, cold and windy, and I was all alone in the house. My reading was...
Downhill!
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who feels that Patricia Cornwell's books have gone downhill lately.
I think all of her books prior to Black Notice were good, but there is definitely a same-ness to her more recent books. She definitely seems to have got stale in my opinion...
I'm an avid reader of crime/mystery/thrillers, and am constantly looking for new authors to try.
Because I read so much, I find that my favorite authors just don't seem to write quickly enough to keep a good supply going. I'm not happy unless I've got about 6 unread books to wade through...
