Sharpe's Eagle - Bernard Cornwell :star4:
I thought I had read the whole series, but lo and behold an earlier one that I had no recollection of. Cornwell (as usual) strikes the perfect balance between historically accurate and educational, and rip-roaring action adventure. This story focuses...
Man of Steel 3 stars (I think photo bucket hacked B&R. All the star ratings on my screen are showing up as photobucket adds)
The good : Henry Cavill looked the part of Superman and Michael Shannon made for a very menacing general Zod. The action.
The Bad : The script. The acting. the action...
Interesting.... but, anyone requiring me to "Imagine if there were an alternate dystopian reality where law enforcement was 100% effective, such that any potential law offenders knew they would be immediately identified, apprehended, and jailed.", in order to make their point... well.... that's...
I Agree with this. I don't know enough yet about exactly what happened, and I don't think anyone does yet. The officials in the know are denying and downplaying the whole thing, and outside of Snowden there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of credible information to the contrary. This is obviously...
A walk in The Woods - Bill Bryson :star4:
Humorous and educational chronicle of Bryson's attempt to hike the entire Appalachian Trail. Laugh out loud funny in spots and filled with historical information about the AT, hiking, wildlife, weather, and lots of other stuff that I didn't think I...
Again though, freedom of speech or action are not being impaired unless we choose to impair it ourselves. We can still speak out against anything we want, or do anything we want within the realm of legality.
This thread got me thinking yesterday for a long time. I am a very private person, and...
I don't think freedom is what we are talking about. It is more about Privacy wouldn't you say? I mean freedom isn't being reduced here. Just privacy, right? Or am I missing something?
Lol! I only read a few and I did enjoy them. He must not have bought new clothes in the ones I read.
To go with your above comment he also only ever seems to injest cheeseburgers and coffee. Must be all that wandering that keeps him lean.
Errors aside Reacher is a pretty cool character and it is...
Little Green - Walter Mosley :star4:
Obviously from the above posts I went into this just a little bit biased, having read and thoroughly enjoyed most of this entire series. I would like to think that if I wasn't a huge fan of this series I would still have read this book and given it four...
I heard that this is an amazing, epic, story and also quite challenging to read. I read the short novel "Chronicle of A Death Foretold" and really enjoyed that, so I plan to tackle 100 years this year, it is number 8 in line on my TBR list.
I don't know what you like to read, but Jacobsen impressed me. Great wit and humor, and a real insight into not only anglo perceptions of other ethnic groups, but also the myriad way people of the same ethnicity view each other.
The Finkler Question - Howard Jacobsen
Highly entertaining story of loss and grief, old friendships and new love, and also of ethnic envy and exclusion. Jacobsen won the Booker for this story in 2010 and I can see why. A very strong author. I will be reading more of him.
:star4:
You can know your neighbors pretty darn well in a general sense and not have any idea what goes on in their homes. I could empathize with Charles Ramsey (the discoverer/rescuer). I've BBQ'd with neighbors plenty of times, talked sports, weather, grubs in the lawn, etc, etc. Does that mean they...
For any James Lee Burke fans, there will be a new Dave Robicheaux mystery out on July 23rd.
From Amazon
"Louisiana Sherriff’s Detective Dave Robicheaux and his longtime friend and partner Clete Purcel are vacationing in Montana’s spectacular Big Sky country when a series of suspicious events...
@ Canuck, sorry I didn't see your question. I was just being an idiot. I watched the interview with the guy that found/rescued the girl and he made the comment that the neighbor "Must have had some big testicles", apparently because he kept these girls locked up and basically went about life as...
