Breaca, I'm from England too, originally from London (although, fortunately, I don't remember it), then Slough in Berkshire, and finally Worthing in West Sussex just before I crossed the pond!
I usually go for really thick novels. It always leaves me a little saddened at the end as I feel that I know the characters so well, and want to know how they're doing!

I really dislike giving up on a book. I prefer a fast-paced read right from the start of a book, but sometimes the slow-starters are worth sticking with.
I suppose it depends on just how bad it is. If it's really bad, I'll give up after 30 pages, but usually I at least get about 100 pages...
I loved the movie too and, yes, I did have to reach for the kleenex! I thought the acting by Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon was superb, and as someone else said earlier, there definitely was no trace of 'Legally Blonde'!
