Island :stars3: Stars Natalie Press,Colin Morgan & Janet McTeer. Atmospheric
movie set on the Hebrides about a young woman searching for her natural birth mother. Beautiful locations, and the film's o.k,if fairly gloomy.
Blackmoor by Edward Hogan :stars4: Bit weird at first, but really enjoyed it by the end. Dark, brooding story with streaks of light set in a close-knit Derbyshire mining village of the 80s/90s.
Started The Tenderness Of Wolves by Stef Penney this morning,a Christmas pressie from about 3 years ago,so had to blow the dust off! Like what I've read so far. While reading reviews on Goodreads found a couple of books listed in 'reader's who read this also read','The Law Of Dreams' by Peter...
Room by Emma Donoghue:stars4: Very good, tho a bit weird at first as the story's told from a 5 yr old boy's viewpoint, but once you get into his talk it's totally absorbing.
The Sword Of Albion by Mark Chadbourn :stars4:
Out Stealing Horses by Per Petterson :stars4:
Revelation by C.J.Sansom :stars4:
The Mist In The Mirror by Susan Hill :stars3:
Awakening by William Horwood :stars4:
Out Stealing Horses just pips Revelation.
I started Room by Emma Donoghue at 5.40 am before going into work, but at first had to re-read bits of it as it's told from a 5yr old boys viewpoint, but you soon get into his patter. Just read some more up in the den but keep nodding off! Not cos the book's bad. :)
Awakening by William Horwood. :stars4: The 2nd in a quartet of novels which are nature fantasies set in modern England and the parallel Hyddenworld. The srories revolve around the seasons, and the 1st one was called Spring, tho the author changed the title of book 2 from Summer to Awakening.
I agree,ABC,tho the link you put in for The Association Of Black Women Historians wouldn't load up. I wasn't aware either that 'the help' had to use separate facilities when working in private homes. It was quite an eye-opener,and tho the story did touch a lot on human nature's darker sides,I...
Read about 40 pages of Awakening by William Horwood between 6-7am cos even tho it's my day off I couldn't sleep-in,and then another 30 or so out in the sun about an hour ago. Awakening is the 2nd in a quartet of books set in the modern world and parallel fantasy world of Hyddenworld, and it's a...
Over the last few weeks I've watched the 70s TV series Colditz. Very impressed by the high quality scripts and acting from stars like Robert Wagner and David McCallum. I was too young to appreciate first time around, but it would def blow away a lot of today's tv drama. Anyone else watched a...
