    2010 Oscars

I've had Near Dark on the DVR for weeks but haven't watched it yet. Strange Days was a cool movie. I wonder if she'll get more work from the publicity?

Yeah, it's a podcast. Unfortunately I couldn't find it in any other format. It's not super long though (approx. 20 minutes) so tough it out dammit! When you go to the site scroll down just a tad bit and click on the play arrow next to the speaker symbol.

    2010 Oscars

I thought Avatar would have been as justified in winning as any other film nominated. Not because the story was anything special, but because it may go down as the movie that brought 3-D back in favor. However, there wasn't a stand-out, stellar movie in the bunch. I did like Hurt Locker a lot...

Heya there. Here is a short story I think you'll like. I'm not bothering to put it in the short story sub-forum because of its ability to offend with a bit of adult language. This is a short podcast. Roadside Rescue by Pat Cadigan

    Your book activity today

I'd heard good things about it and it very much lived up to its hype.

    Your book activity today

Today I read The Last Question by Isaac Asimov.

    Dan Simmons

I've got it and haven't read it yet either Thomas. I'll probably wait until summer though, fewer distractions. Song of Kali wasn't as scary as I'd heard but still really good. Disturbing and sad would be more fitting. Summer of Night is probably the next one I'll get.

    Mike Resnick: Kirinyaga

SF definitely has its fair share of good writers even though they get little notice. Glad you're liking them Libra. I'll try to keep choosing carefully.

    Mike Resnick: Kirinyaga

A moral question about differences between cultures. A rare SF story set in Africa. Link

    Greg Egan: Closer

Great story. The idea of being able to leave your body behind appears again in Wang's Carpets and the briefly mentioned "menstrual cycle...abandoned decades before" is the entire theme in Connie Willis's short story Even the Queen. Egan's scientific esoterica is so challenging, but only just...

Yeah, it was interesting when I saw you posted that thread for Closer because I had just read Singleton the day before. Egan has about 20 or so short stories you can read online for free.

    Books based on isolation/solitude

Never Cry Wolf - Farley Mowat Into the Wild - Jon Krakauer The Final Frontiersman - James Campbell None are perfect fits, but maybe something you'd enjoy just the same.

    Greg Egan: Singleton

Rearing an adai (autonomously developing artificial intelligence) with a Qusp (quantum singleton processor) is not a decision made lightly. Singleton

    Audiobooks

I listened to my first audio book ever the other day (except for kid's stories when I was young) and I enjoyed it pretty well. It was harder to stay focused and I had to back it up a few times so I didn't get lost. I bought a pair of headphones just for this reason and I don't think I could...

This is the title of a thread that links to somebody else's humor

I like it. We're up to our eyeballs in opinion, and I always enjoy this type of mockery. Reminds me of either Steven Wright sort of.
