I agree. If you didn't say this I was going to ask if it has to be one or the other. A dystopian classic. Have you read We or Brave New World? I liked both even better than 1984.
I'll second all of these:
collections
anthologies (I like this for the range of authors/stories to comment on)
graphic novels (usually nice and short, could pack into same month as another category or read more than 1)
memoirs/biographies (I can do without the politicians, athletes, movie...
My wife says that one was good. Priest has another called Dreadnought that sounds similar.
Other ideas:
Hexslinger series - Gemma Files
Territory - Emma Bull (wife also says this one is good)
I know. I like to think some exec said "there's really no science going on here, f*** it let's change the name."
Yeah, I think most people probably feel this way. I hadn't really thought about it until I'd heard the argument from professionals who've spent their lives immersed in the genre...

From what I've read Huntsman is actually known as a moderate despite being from such a conservative state. He is for civil unions and reformed Utah's backwards alcohol laws. Although you still can't buy beer stronger than 4% ABV in non-state-run stores!
Not quite sure but if that's a reference to Friday Night Lights you appear to have Mogwai confused with Explosions in the Sky.....who, by the way, I may go see in a couple days. Definitely going to see James McMurtry (son of Larry McMurtry for all you Lonesome Dove fans out there) on 9/23.
To Open the Sky - Robert Silverberg :stars2:
Ark - Stephen Baxter :stars4:
Summer of Night - Dan Simmons :stars3:
Rocannon's World - Ursula Le Guin :stars3:
