    Real-life Authors As Characters

Thomas your belief is akin to me thinking Ira Hayes didn't exist because he was a character in a Johnny Cash song. I hate to be the one to break what must be so shocking a revelation to you but he was not merely a fictional character. Or are encyclopedias around the world misinformed or playing...

    Real-life Authors As Characters

That is what I thought but I was, and still am, amazed that "one of his worshippers" wouldn't know of his existence. Fandom these days is a tenuous thing I suppose. At the same time I'm very excited for him. Can you imagine what a kid would go through if he found out Santa did in fact exist...

    Real-life Authors As Characters

The thing is Stewart why did those Cyrano de Bergeracs of fiction come about, ultimately? Was he somebody's original creation? A person actually existed with that name, was a writer of sorts and inspired others to adapt versions of himself in their own works.

    Real-life Authors As Characters

:lol:You need to go back a bit further in your de Bergeracs thomas. It's funny you and Stewart both apparently were unaware of this man's existence. Who did you think the character in Rostand's play was based on?

    Real-life Authors As Characters

Mark Twain and Cyrano de Bergerac both appear in the Riverworld series by Philip Jose Farmer. There are several smaller historical figures in The Alienist and The Angel of Darkness by Caleb Carr. All of Tim Powers' stuff. Check him out.

Is online text reading really reading?

I'm with you. The trade off comes with learning how to sustain an attention span over a much longer duration (books) versus going from subject to subject in a medium that lends itself to choice (Internet). That's true, but I think it is possible that the format from which you learn to read...

Books on True reasons of histories of wars and world politics

That's interesting. It makes me wonder how accurate the portrayal is from the book side too. I'll error on the side of the book though. I've heard good things about A Bright Shining Lie (Vietnam) but never read it.

Teaching Christianity in the Public Schools...

Good for you. I think many people concern themselves with what would be tainted in government with religion mixing in too much. Fanatical Christians ought to worry about what their religion might look like with government intruding that direction. The point is if government and religion mix both...

What I've learnt from film and TV

Regardless of the availability and lethality of various weapons we prefer to have nearly every action/adventure movie end with a fist fight of some sort. Ben Stiller gets hit in the balls a lot. Aliens usually have two arms, two legs, two eyes, two ears, one nose, and one mouth. They tend...
