How about the "Liveship Traders" trilogy also by Robin Hobb/Megan Lindholm.
While I enjoyed the farseer a little more for "credibility" (as far as that weighs in in Fantasy writing) and character development, I still enjoyed the Liveship Traders.

Any new recommendations? I mean HHGttG is kind of a "must read" when "funny" or "hilarious" is concerned.
My vote for most violent lough-out-loud is definitely "Riotous Assembly" by Tom Sharpe. Makes "Wilt" pale with envy in comparison.
Dave barry's "Big Trouble" (already mentioned) also...
I'd say the violence in Janet's books is very mild. Cozy is probably the right word. It wears a little thin to the (current) end of the series but in general it makes for an entertaining read...
