Some grab me straight away, others can take years. When I first heard Boys For Pele by Tori Amos, I absolutely hated it. I kept listening to it, hoping it would grow on me, and then one day as I was cleaning up, I just 'got it'. :)
I've never had any problems with Amazon.com. Mind you, they must have such a high volume of transactions, that errors are bound to occur. I'm sure if you contacted them, you would get your money back. Unless, of course, you speak to them the way you speak to some people here.
I tried one Cussler book, but couldn't get into it. I can't even remember what it was called, but it was something to do with the sea. The main reason I didn't like it, was that it was the middle book in a 'series' all featuring the same characters, who were very well established at...
Interesting. I have this one somewhere towards the top of my TBR pile, and will post back when I finish (which could be months  ). I've only read one Jared Diamond book, but my goodness, doesn't he cover so much material?
I'm not all that knowledgable when it comes to history, so I wouldn't know whether something is accurate or not. I think it depends on what the book is about. If it is just general historical fiction, about a time rather than an actual person, then I wouldn't be too bothered if it's not...
A picnic isn't my idea of fun either; the whole thing was taken from Dictionary.com. ;)
I think it's entirely subjective, as a lot of people on here have said.
How about this definition from Wikipedia (can you believe they have an entry on 'fun'??):
Hmmm, Matthew Reilly comes to mind, when I think of action/adventure. Not necessarily good action/adventure, but action/adventure nonetheless. Just be prepared for lots of short, basic sentences, all ending with exclamation points!!!!!
I didn't like any of them. I think I got up to the third book, and gave up. I didn't care for the movie either. Then again, I'm not a huge fan of fantasy.
I have no suggestions, but I'm interested in what other people suggest. There are quite a few biographies out there, but I always hesitate because I never know which one is most accurate.
As far as fiction, I'm sure Philippa Gregory or Jean Plaidy have written something about her...
Resurrecting an old thread here.... :o
I discovered Maggie O'Farrell last year, after reading some very good reviews on another forum. The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox (her most recent one, I think) was the first one I read, and I was so impressed with it. The story was great, as was the way...
It depends on the book. If it's an easy read, like a thriller, then I can read it in a couple of days or less. If it's something a bit 'meatier', then I can be at it for weeks. Most books I read are probably upward of 400 pages or so.
I doubt it. I've read one or two of those 'books based on movies', and I find that it just transcribes what appears on screen, with nothing else added.
