    Organizing your books

At the moment, they are all higgeldy-piggeldy, wherever I have the space. Generally though, I sort by size, and then author. On another forum, someone said they organise their books by colour; I like that idea - I think it would look great! Must be hard to find what you are looking for though...

Poll: How old is the average reader on this Forum?

I think there are too many other easy distractions these day - like video games, and the internet.

    Chuck Palahniuk

I never knew they were making a movie based on Choke. I'd heard about Invisible Monsters, but I don't think anything is really concrete about that one.

    Amazon's best books of 2007

Glad to see The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox up there! That's the only one on their list that I've read (aside from Spook Country, which I gave up on).

    Speed reading help!!!!

I'd say I probably read at the average speed. I don't have a clue about how many word per minute though. Some books are easier to read fast, than others. There are some that I really have to read word by word to get the meaning, while others I can just read a sentence in one go (if...

How Many Books Do You Read in a Year (approx.)?

This year I've read about 35. It feels like I've read a lot more than that, but I guess not.

Amazon just nerfed their customer reviews

I haven't noticed any change. I'll have to pop over for a closer look!

Poll: How old is the average reader on this Forum?

I'm 31, and I've been reading for as long as I can recall. I'm never without a book, and it's been that way forever. When I was in high school, I would go to the library pretty much every day, to get something out to read. :D

Do you buy, borrow or take out from the library?

Both for me, though I mainly borrow from the library. However, if there is a book that I can't wait to get my hands on, then I'll buy it.

    Cormac McCarthy: The Road

I'll be reading this one in a while. I'm really looking forward to it, as I've constantly heard such good things about it. It'll be my first McCarthy book. :)

What do you think of the Kindle?

It seems a bit pricey, for something that is just for reading books/newspapers. I'd rather use a Palm (or something similar), that has other functions as well. Also, it looks quite large - the size of a paperback. I'd prefer something smaller.

    what entices you to purchase?

I don't 'impulse buy' very often these days. Most of the books I buy are by authors that I am familiar with, and know I will enjoy. I have bought the odd book that I've heard rave reviews on, but mostly I borrow books from the library. :)

    What have you read recently?

I'll be reading this one shortly. I've heard a lot of good things about it, so I'm quite looking forward to it. :)

    Ian McEwan

Resurrecting an old thread here...:o I've just finished Atonement, and I absolutely loved everything about it - the story, and the way it was written. I definitely preferred the first section; I thought McEwen did such a good job of getting into Briony's head, and her way of...

    Construction of your personal library?

Me too! I love the idea of a secret room! :D

    William Gibson: Spook Country

*sigh* I've had to put it down, as I just couldn't get into it. I am determined to try other Gibson books, to see what the fuss is about. Everyone seems to recommend different titles though. :D

The first sentence in the book you're reading

'The play - for which Briony had designed the posters, programmes and tickets, constructed the sales booth out of a folding screen tipped on its side, and lined the collection box in red crepe paper - was written by her in a two-day tempest of composition, causing her to miss a breakfast and a...
