I like to read science and history books, however I do find it hard to not get distracted by fiction instead. It's been quite a while since I've read a non-fiction book, as I have such as large TBR pile of fiction books, that seems to grow bigger each day.
I haven't read her latest, but Lucky is a recommended read. It's very graphic and brutal though - it is an account of her rape when she was a college student. Be warned though - it is very brutal.
The best true crime book I have read, is Helter Skelter, which is about the Charles Manson case. Other good one are Mindhunter and Journey Into Darkness, both by John Douglas. Ann Rule writes a lot of true crime books, which are quite popular, but I can never really get into her books.
Ok, I had to google that, and no, that's not what I was reading. :p
People wouldn't even look at what I was reading; they would just walk past and say "Ooooh, look, a book! You won't fit in here!", and various comments to that effect. I was new there, and I guess they thought they...
I love libraries! How can one not? If you've really enjoyed a book you've borrowed, then you can always buy your own copy after you return the library one. Better than forking out your hard earned on books that you are not sure you will enjoy!
I have two local libraries...
I usually use free bookmarks I get from libraries or book stores. I can't use scraps of paper, like receipts - not necessarily because I don't think they are "good enough" for a book, but more because I just don't like scraps of paper! :p
Hmm, a couple of my favourites:
The Stand by Stephen King - a read page turner (IMO) and an easy read.
Out by Natsuo Kirino - very complex psychological "thriller" (thriller isn't really the right word for it, but I can't think of a more appropriate one), set in modern time Japan...
No, I just do my business and get out. :D I have occassionally read in the loo, usually when I was in the middle of a book that was so good that I just couldn't put it down. But it's been a long time since I've done that.
The only one I would be interested in is The Stuff of Thought - Steven Pinker. I read How The Mind Works, a few years back, and found it to be very interesting.
1) One Book that made you read it More Than Once: The Stand by Stephen King
2) One book you would want on a desert island: Hmm, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams
3) One book that made you laugh: A Walk In The Woods - Bill Bryson
4) One book that made you cry...
My August books were:
Eragon - Christopher Paolini
Lucky - Alice Sebold
Northern Lights - Philip Pullman
The Subtle Knife - Philip Pullman
The Andromeda Strain - Michael Crichton
The best historical fiction I've read is The Pillars of The Earth by Ken Follett. It's set in 12th century England, so a fair bit earlier than what you are after; however it is a very good read, and one I always recommend. :)
I have read and enjoyed Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood, but I can't...
