What is Your Library Like? (Contains Images)

I can't find any pictures of my local library. It's not the greatest, but it suits me fine. There are 4 branches, of which I regularly visit 2. They also have regular book sales too, which can be quite handy as they can be very cheap (paperbacks go for 50p). It was vandalised quite badly...

    Recommendations

I've only read The Clan of the Cave Bear. I enjoyed it, so that's the one I'd go with. :)

    Stephen King/Peter Straub: The Talisman

T'is a great one, IMO. :D I've read reviews where people complain that it starts off slowly, but it had me hooked right from the beginning. If you like fast paced fantasy-adventure books, you'll love this one. The pace just does not let up, and it reminded me a lot of The Dark Tower series with...

    Historical Novel Suggestions

My favourite historical novel would have to be Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet. :D I've had Bernard Cornwell recommended to me, by someone who is very much into historical fiction. I tried one of his books - Harlequin - but I couldn't get through it (too many battle scenes, and not enough...

    how long

Depends on the book. If it's an "easy" read, with a fast-moving interesting storyline then I can finish it in a day or two. If it's a book with lots of descriptive prose then it can take me anywhere from a week to a month to finish it. :o

    Typos or Mistakes in Books

I remember a paperback version of The Chamber by John Grisham, having loads of typos, but that was years ago. There have been others, but I usually just ignore them. tartan_skirt, I think I recall that error in The Historian! It amazes me that a spell-checker wouldn't pick...

    John Grisham

I just finished The Testament. It was quite enjoyable if you are into easy reads that don't sprain too many brain cells. :D I was totally hooked from the beginning; the first few chapters were great, and then it settled down into a story that took off into a different direction that I was...

    Natsuo Kirino: Out

She has had another book translated, released in the UK last month, called Grotesque. I've got it from the library, but have yet to read it. Taken from Amazon.com From Publishers Weekly "Readers with a taste for ambiguity and oddball characters will enjoy this twisted novel of suspense...

When you look for a new book . . .

I usually pick up a book that I have read a review of, or has been highly recommended. But having said that, I also often pick up books that I've never heard of, simply because they catch my eye. I do get quite influenced by the cover of a book - that will make me pick it up - and if the blurb...

    Author fatigue

I can't do that if the author write books that are of one genre or very similar to each other (ie. John Grisham or Stephen King). Similarly, I can't read books of the same series one after another. I need something different to break it up. For me, it would probably work well with an...

    Stephen King: Dark Tower Series

For me, the series peaked at Wizard and Glass. The others were readable, but they didn't have that "magic" that the others had, IMO. I don't think there's any way there can be a book 8 of the series. You'll see what I mean when you read the last couple of sentences of the book. ;)

    How often do you read?

I read during my lunch hour every day at work. I try to get in some reading time when I get home, but some nights I'm just so tired all I want to do is zone out and watch TV or play a game. :o Weekends aren't much better either, but I usually can get a few hours in.
