Judy Blume, and Enid Blyton were my favourite authors. I can't think of any that I didn't like. I seem to have become a lot fussier as I've gotten older. :whistling:
When I was in early high school, I read loads of books, probably around 3-5 per week. But the books I read were teenage fiction, or young adult, and quite easy to get through. These days, I'm lucky if I can get through one book a fortnight. :banghead6mx:
The next one on my list is The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Faber. I've had this one for a while, but library books kept getting in the way. After that, I'd like to read some John Banville and try The Heart Shaped Box (which I just bought today) by Joe Hill. Also, I've been browsing...
I loved the first 3 books, when I first read them. I think I was in my mid to late teens, and I just thought they were superb. A few years ago, I decided to re-read them, and I was very disappointed. Well, the first book was ok, but the second one - The Valley Of Horses - was just so...
No idea, as it's only recently that I've been keeping track. But counting books that I read from childhood, I'd probably say it was in the high hundreds.
How about Carl Sagan for quite a broad view on science? Cosmos and Pale Blue Dot are ones I enjoyed.
Stephen Hawking is quite good too, if you have an interest in the universe and it's creation, though it can be quite heavy.
Two spring to mind: The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold, and The Rule of Four (can't remember the author). In fact, I was so disgusted by the latter book's ending that I hurled it across the room.
