One book or three or six, it's the best book I've ever read. I only wish that Tolkien was able to write everything he wanted to regadring middle earth. It's shame that we only have a small sample of his grand vision.
I din't like Lisey's Story either. I had to go back to it 3 times before I finished it. I thought Cell was good. Cell was full of holes, but it was a fun read.
I just picked up The Children on Hurin. C.Tolkien. I know they're just capitalizing on the Lord of the Rings success, but I couldn't resist. Anyone read it yet?
I thought Wolves of the Calla was good too, especially the ending. The problem I have with the story as a whole is that it's all build-up, and no delivery. It's clear that King had no clear vision from the beginning on where the story was going.
Anyway, I still remain a King fan. I even read...
There are too many to list, but here are the absolute minimum books to read before I die:
The Divine Comedy
Pride and Prejudice
Wuthering Heights
The Red Badge of Courage
The Hound of the Baskervilles
The Count of Monte Cristo
The Great Gatsby
The Bible
The Odyssey
To Kill a...
Not sure if this thread is still active, so I won't say much for now other than I can't believe so many people think the DT series is great. I hope everyone doesn't come down on me for that comment. I've read many King novels and short stories, and still remain a fan.
I thought The Gunslinger...
Can't wait for the openning scene. Good to see King getting back to his roots. I read Lisey's Story last year (after starting and topping a few times), and I personally though it dragged. That's one book that'll likely never be a movie. I'm going to read Duma Key at some point, but waiting to...
I loved The Hunt for Red October. It's the only Clancy book I've read. I'm not sure about all the technical stuff, but if it's not true, Clancy fooled me.
I know what you mean. I think this'll be the year of classics for me. I finished Great Expectations and A Christmas Carol last year. This year it's going to be A Tale of Two Cities and Oliver Twist. I'm also going to try to get through The Bible, but that'll likely be in stages. Going to throw...
Just looking for good book discussions. I love to read and talk about books.
Hockey is a passion for me. I play and officiate.
Look out here come the playoffs!!! Go Leafs:rolleyes:
The hockey fans will get that joke.
The first book that comes to mind is the Silence of the Lambs. Great book and movie. All the other books by Thomas Harris are good. Hannibal Lectar is a great villian.
One book that I'd love to see turned into a movie is Cell by Stephen King.
I like Clive Cussler also. The Chase and Sahara are the only books I've read read so far, but I have a friend that has every Cussler book. He can't get enough. Tolkien is also a personal favourite.
The only Hemmingway book I've read to date is The Old Man and the Sea, but I thought it was great. Just not enough time to read everything I want. A Farewell to Arms will be my nex Hemmingway book some time this year (I hope).
The Dark Tower series is the only one from your list that I’ve read. You’ve read it, so you know what to expect. The series has some ‘Wow’ moments but overall, it was mediocre.
