Yes, and the most memorable one caught me so off guard that I actually lost interest in the series! Robert Jordon's Wheel of Time series, book seven (I believe), Lord of Chaos. After reading 700+ pages to have it end like it did just took the wind out of my sails. I tried reading the next...
I went for three years without owning a TV once. Didn't really miss it.
I married a couch potato though. He's knows it's a huge accomplishement to get me to sit down and watch even an hour's worth of TV with him. It's just not my thing.
Now, take me to a theatre for a movie. I'm...

Okay, not only does Tolstoy analyze the war to no end (which is NOT the incredible part LOL), but he also analyzes the characters in the story (during the story sections - so it's still okay to skip the war BS if you want). Anyway, the analyzing he does with the characters is really intriguing...
Time for a party! I'm DONE!!!!! :D
Would I recommend it? Yes, but skip over Tolstoy's running commentary. You won't miss a thing. Excellent story, and wonderful characters. :)
Finally! I'm done. :) Whew!
I would have loved the book if half of it wasn't Tolstoy's lectures about what REALLY causes the war to proceed like it does. As it was, I found it very tedious reading. But, I will admit that I fell in love with his characters.
