Assuming the question is in regards to occupying your mind to the extent that you'd forget that you're stranded on an island, I'd probably choose something really complex like the complete works of Shakespeare and force myself to memorize the whole thing.
I've read two: The Bluest Eye and A Lesson Before Dying. A Lesson Before Dying I thought was exceptional. The Bluest Eye was not good and I said as much in a Toni Morrison thread on this board. Nobel prize, pfft.
