Well I finished Lolita this evening. What I can surely say is that reading Lolita is like merely skimming Lolita. There is simply so much to be harvested from this book. I feel I've only the barest skeleton of an impression about all of the ideas in this book. The book begs to be re-read and...
Once, when camping, I boiled a kettle of water to make hot chocolate. Apparently there were some ants in it and their little bodies were floating in my cocoa when I took a sip.
Gem even reading that description about killing the ants is giving me a queasy stomach. And what's worse to me is I'm more queasy about a bunch of dead ants then a bunch of live ones.
I'm not generally afraid of insects, bees, crickets, mantis or even spiders BUT I am afraid of ants. Not one or two ants. It has to be like a whole bunch of them, say 200+. When we first moved into our house we had an ant problem with sugar ants (those are the really tiny black ones) in our...
Don't say that. You're talking about genocide. Please don't use those poor people as an example. Whatever side you come down on here EVERY ONE of us (Americans, Europeans and some Aussie's mostly here I think) is living is comfort and security. NONE of us would want to trade places with a...
Good observation. I like those little descriptions as well.
Regarding the unhappiness or disatisfaction the men felt with their lives. I hadn't thought of that but of course you are absoluetly right. There really wasn't a happy character in this book.
What did everyone think about the ending?
Further along still now. Now I'm REALLY starting to hate HH. He tells Lo her mum is dead only as an abrupt punishment for some trite perceived wrong doing on her part. Now we read that Lo is crying every night while he plays asleep. Hmmm... and he's got a gun I see. His justifications are...
The artist is John Lawrence and they are lovely. When I got the book I was afraid to even open it. It's definitely the most expensive book I'll ever buy, but, to me at least, worth it. I have a few other copies of this book but they're just various editions, nothing super special like this one.
Thanks guys. I've had this editorial column in The Time News for a couple of years now, on top of being a vet. My editor mentioned that I should try for syndication so that may be the next step for me. We'll see.
This Thursday's editorial.
Anesthesia is Safer than Ever for Pets
For some pet owners the word anesthesia makes their knees weak. I’ve seen grown adults clutch their pets with white knuckled, trembling hands at the mere mention of this word. Unfortunately, anesthesia is an irreplaceable...
Guys I just wanted to share this. My favorite book is Richard Adam's Watership Down. The first time I read it I was in the fourth grade. I've probably read it 20 times or so since then. Well I just bought a Morrocan leather bound, gold leafed copy, 1/30 signed by Richard Adams with original...
I have to admit: I love the Hampster Dance and I'm not afraid to shout it to the world! Now I feel better.:p I had no idea this site was still up and running and heck, evolving!!
