Just some of the delights lined up for this month, I'm just finishing the Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny. Can anyone tell me if the second set are as good as the first?

The point is that while Tolkien sought inspiration and thematics in other kinds of work of art (epic poems, opera,) and religion, his work takes on a new shape and, additionally, is a part of the whole mythology Tolkien created for the English culture.

Steven Erikson is, in my opinion, the greatest fantasy writer out there. (is this an American site, cause he hasn't been released there yet). Other favs include Robin Hobb, George martin and China Miéville.
I think one of Jordan's many problems is that WoT was originally going to be four books long and so he did all his character development in the first four books, then everythink spirled out of control for him and now things have just become stagnant.
