    Cyberpunk Sci-fi and the Singularity

I can't say I've ever heard of the theoy by name, but when you described it I recognised a couple of great books that include it. Altered Carbon - Richard Morgen - takes place in a world where people rarely die as they can be put on file and downloaded into a new body. The idea adds a great...

    New member needs guidance

You're going to be waiting for awhile, not out till 2005  I got it out of the library so I wouldn't have to pay the full whack. And I don't like hardbacks.

    New member needs guidance

I'll second Litanys' suggestions, firstly because they are two great sets of books and secondly for fear of my oh so precious botty. :D Anyway, some other ideas: I'm not a massive fan of Tad Williams, but from what you've said of what books you have liked, you should give him a go. He's a bit...

George R. R. Martin: A Feast For Crows

There are also a couple of sample chapters available to read on his official site.

    Science Fiction

Anyone that enjoyed Starship Troopers, I reccomend The Forever War by Joe Haldeman.

    Terry Pratchett: Good Omens

Wonderful spoof of The Omen, I really enjoyed this. I think it might be down to Gaiman's influence. I've never found Pratchett funny at all and rarely pick up a Diskworld book, but I loved this. Best bit, propably the prolouge.

    Science Fiction

Richard Morgan - Altered Carbon the sci-fi element adds a fascinating twist to the classic whodunnit. Alastair Reynolds - Revelation Space the modern Arthur Clark. Later books in the series are a bit weaker, but every moment of this books crackles with excitement. Plenty of interesting...

Is this poor taste or hutzpah...inquiring mind what to know?

It's not poor taste at all. I understand completely how difficult it can be to get published, no matter how good the book may be, so congratulations first and foremost. Is the book available in the UK? I don't think I'll be able to find time to read and review any extracts at the moment, I'm...

    King Arthur

Is that a poem, or is my memory playing tricks on me? :)

    King Arthur

Marion Zimmer Bradley - The Mists of Avalon Bernard Cornwell - The Warlord Chronicles TH White - the Once and Future King

Please help me remember a book if you can

Hmm... Some of the things you mention suggest Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber, but some of the other details don't add up. The main character is called Corwin and he does search for his father who disappeared mysteriously. He did use magical cards a lot, but there was no bird. Does this jog...

    Recommendations for a Fantasy "Newb"

I'd go further than saying I resist it... I detest it

    The Scar

Ahh right, yeah, I completely agree with you. I loved the unfinished element of the Scar. Can't wait for Iron Council, though I'm a bit annoyed that the Paperback won't be out for so long, I hate hardbacks :(

    The Scar

I don't think that's what the next book is about. It's a similar jump as the Scar was from Perdido St Station. Same worlds, a couple of links, but very distinct stories. Iron Council should be out in hardback very soon. But the paperback isn't coming till September 2005

    Young Adult Fantasy

Just out of interest, what did you dislike about His Dark Materials. I found it far more accomplished than many "adult" releases in fantasy today.

    Young Adult Fantasy

The "His Dark Materials" trilogy is the best work of Young Adult fiction I've read. You might also want to look for Across the Nightingale Floor by Lian Hearn and Eragon by... umm... someone

    Science Fiction and Fantasy

Wrong thread mate, didn't you know Goodkind doesn't write fantasy ;) Goodkind's letter to his fans (I wonder how I ended up reading it) I hate that letter, he comes across as such an arrogant guy in it.

Troy-what are they going to do?

I thought this was a terrible film. The script was aweful and most of the cast were very clumbsy. Priam was well played, as was Hector, but most of the other characters were horrible. The plot could only be described as dumbed down and I too was annoyed that the Greek Gods and Goddess were...
