    Voices from Poland

An inspirational WWII Polish story would be the tale of the Orzel which escaped under guard and later on, sank a German troop ship. Read about it in Churchill's first volume of WII history, a good story that not a lot of people know about.

Ah thanks, I will do that. I understand the advertisements for running stuff and events like the warrior dash. The silver cupid makes sense, I just turned 380 last February.

Which Authors You Won't Read Again?

Slightly annoyed doesn't mean unwilling to read the book. I went through a big Koontz phase about twelve years ago. Intensity is hist best imho. Why do I want to say that his wife was shot holding a child in the cabin? For some reason, I remember that particular incident.

    Blues, Jazz and Musical Tastes

Meadow, I have to say you have the most interesting threads-kudos to you for that. I listen to a blues station via SIRIUS satellite radio and I absolutely love it. Can't say enough about Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, and James Cotton. I haven't warmed up to jazz much, perhaps I just need to...

 Ozzy relapses. Best luck to the old chap, but it didn't necessarily floor me. Feel free to add more.

Which Authors You Won't Read Again?

I like to think of those guys as belonging to the "techno-thriller" genre a la Tom Clancy and Stephen Coonts. they do tend to be further right than I am, but I still enjoy their books. The only one I was slightly annoyed with was Dean Koontz and his Dark rivers of the heart book which...

Which Authors You Won't Read Again?

Hemingway was a romantic and his work has some definite highs(The sun also rises) and of course, he had some tremendous lows. I believe you can find any predominant emotion in a given work of his.

    My thoughts on Atlas Shrugged

The best Lysander Spooner website out there.:D My favorite piece that he wrote was the constitution of no authority. I would definitely agree with you in regards to American libertarianism being *classical* liberalism. It's amazing how terms can sometimes have radically different meanings over...

    My thoughts on Atlas Shrugged

Bastiat's The Law is an interesting read on political theory. I have read his other minor works and when it comes to Libertarian thought, you're right, they are very succinct and to the point. I would definitely have someone start with him. The "dismal science" that is economics, most...

    Norman Mailer

Just finished Of a fire on the moon. It's a jaded romantic's take on the coming age of technology and scientism. Interesting chapters include "'the psychology of astronauts" and "the psychology of machines." The author details the staid, anti-sceptic environment that was NASA in the '60s...

    Excellent articles as of late

Excellent points Peder. I would add that I don't know if the transcendentalists would appreciate being grouped in with "that old time religion." The author cited Harriet Beecher Stowe's work as evidence for "the novel" during this time period as having a strong religious favor. Perhaps there...
