I read this one a few years ago and never made it the entire way through. I've started and stopped a few times, just could never get into it though. I did read his: "A New Earth" book that Oprah shilled for. He focuses on simplistic Buddhist principles such as being present in the now, as...
I've been noticing these books a lot in various libraries and under arms. On a whim, I went ahead and ordered the series. You can't judge a book by its cover, but you sure can purchase one that way. :) Any fans, critics, or people who dig dystopian novels about science gone awry?:devillook...
A rabbit trail on this subject
You should be embarrassed to read YA

I'm currently reading Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. I feel justified in doing so after...
An older kindle...something used to actually read. I'm sad about the day that mine died. I still keep it for sentimental reasons, though my significant other doens't know why in the world I would do that. In the old days, people kept the oven heated irons around as door stops and such. Not...
Don't know if we should be talking about chickens. Doing so makes me sad and it's kind of depressing. I only talk about good things, this is just fowl.
Lucky for your husband, you didn't pick up books written in braille. :D I would've asked her on what basis would she pick a book? I would then talk extensively about buying books based on how much they weigh as a heavy book, certainly has some deeeeeep thoughts and plots. :devillook
Graham's line of argument consists of two main points: (1)YA books are too simplistic and end in a "tidying up" way that is just not natural for adults; (2) People should work form YA to A books, not vice versa, or at least, read most of their material in the form of YA and thus, stunting their...
Excellent points all the way around. Perhaps we do learn from history, but we fail to see nuances and similarities. In the case of the project-syndicate I posted, a reader could say that we don't have the network of alliances which led in part to WWI. At the same time, we do have increasingly...
Thanks for posting this, your post and link to earlier writings is a real treat to peruse. I remember in the late '80s that in certain right wing circles(i.e.-Rush Limbaugh & the John Birch Society) that Gorbachev was viewed as an ardent communist who only wanted to institute nominal reforms in...
Looks like you are correct in regards to voting versus actual participation. Both March and January defied voting predictions.

Might want to shelve the summer BOTM and try again with a classic novel in August. More people at home during that time and a book that most members have at least heard of wouldn't hurt.
Glad to see the change in management, I suspect 99.9% of people are likewise in agreement that it was for the better.
