    Getting Kids interested in Reading

I would agree with all of the above. Plus a lot of kids love routines. They associate enjoyment with things that you routinely do as a family. I read to my daughter at night before she goes to sleep and she is disappointed when we aren't able to. She is a great reader at 9, and she loves to...

    Bernard Cornwell...where do I start?

I would highly recommend one of two series to start. Either The Grail Quest series, which starts with "The Archers Tale". I think in the UK this one was titled "Harlequin". My favorites are the Saxon series which starts with "The Last Kingdom". I've read most of his stuff and these two...

Looking for a good Medieval book....

For great 9th century action you can't go wrong with Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Stories.

    Hi, from KC!

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like we have some similar reading interests. I like the supense/mystery/thrillers too. I think there might be a few more here as well, although two of them might be the same person....

I have been watching the new season on and off. I really have to say I do not like the new lead as much as the poor guy that died. It sort of ruined the series for me. Plus I really liked the gladiatorial scenes from the first season and those are pretty much absent from the new series. I still...

Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy :stars4: + A great, thoroughly well acted movie. Ending was wrapped up a hair too quickly. Other than that probably the best spy movie I can remember seeing.

    Michael Chabon

Thanks! Sounds interesting. I haven't read many alternative history stories, the only one I can think of is Phillip Roth's The plot against America, which I liked. When I get back to Chabon, I'll grab this one.

    Michael Chabon

I read the Amazing Adventures of Kavelier and Clay and enjoyed it for the most part. Been meaning to get back to that author. What would you recommend by him?

March 2012: Arthur Conan Doyle: The Hound of the Baskervilles

^ Agree. I enjoyed the story. I read an abridged kids version when I was young and had forgotten everything. Especially that Holmes is such a jerk! It works well though and I got used to it halfway through the story. I like the pacing and the no no-nonsense prose style. It helps to move the...
