    I agree with you on the "non-thriller fiction" bit. Might even add the word "historical" in there. I read Larson's Garden of Beasts and immediately went and picked up Devil in the White City and Thunderstruck. Loved em all! I'll have to check the other authors you mentioned.

    "Culture" in general has changed because of the internet. It is perfectly normal for people to make friends through the internet, and for those friends to become important parts of their lives. Not to say that bad things don't happen.... Regarding literary culture specifically, I don't know how...
