Zero Dark Thirty :star4:
Liked it a lot. Mainly because it didn't seem to push an opinion/agenda or attempt to force conclusions. It just told the story, and did that very well.
My only real gripe is that I don't think there is a way to turn of the advertising on my kindle. For instance when it is laying on my desk at work and filling the screen is an ad for some romance novel with a shirtless pirate kissing some chick with her lady parts spilling out of her shirt. And...
Just finished re-reading December 6. What an absolutely amazing read. Smith paints a picture of Tokyo on the eve of war that is breathtakingly vibrant, detailed, and tragically beautiful. This is a story that has it all. Suspense, action, culture, romance, comedy, tragedy, etc.
Brent, that is cynical and pessimistic.... and completely true.
I talked to a guy today from the U.S. who works as a security advisor directly with Israeli police in Tel Aviv. He said that the time for the U.S. to intervene would have been two years ago when the opposition forces weren't...
I have heard some news reports that say the opposition forces contain elements of Al-Qaeda. If that is true, are we going to arm and train these folks so they can attack us later?
Depends on what you mean by "Solve". Like I said, I can't imagine a non violent opposition bearing positive fruit...
Your right...Sorry to the OP.
Dima, my view is that there is not a good answer. Part of me thinks that we should just leave that area of the world alone and let it sort out it's own affairs. But... last night I saw the pictures of all of the dead women and children from the gas attacks on the...
Ummm... when we felt hard done by the British we beat the smoke out of them and now they are our allies. Without nearly as much massacre, imprisonment, or torture.
Just sayin....
I am by no means saying that all of this couldn't have been averted. I am just saying that that doesn't do anyone any good right now. And it is easy to recommend sitting down in front of a tank, when you are not going to be the one doing the sitting. Most people would prefer a fighting chance to...
I am just curious... what should "those standing by letting it happen" do? I don't mean to be argumentative. I just don't see how you stop someone from using chemical weapons on women and children without using violence.
Edge of Dark Water - Joe Landsale :star3:3/4
The plot follows three teeneagers in 1940's rural East Texas whose friend is found murdered, her body weighted and sunk in a fishing pond. Her wish was to escape her home and travel to Hollywood to become a star, so naturally they form a plan to dig...
Diaz was one of my great finds of 2012. I read Oscar and then read everything else he had written. I am a pretty big fan at this point and will be happy to see anything new from him.
I have AT&T so I will not know what to think about it. I think it would be kind of cool to get a different perspective on Middle East news than the ones we get now.
Also it would be cool to see some actual middle eastern correspondents.
My pops asked me the other day why all the middle eastern...
Yeah... he doesn't really break any new ground from a literary standpoint. He just tells the story. Also Kerbouchard seems to always speak in proverbs. Lol. That might get a little annoying to some, but they were good proverbs, so I was okay with it.
Elysium :star3:
All in all a pretty entertaining Sci-fi action adventure. In the future rich people have created their own "heaven" and set it into orbit around earth. They have vacated earth, which is overpopulated, polluted and disease ridden, leaving the rest of us rabble to struggle on...
Moses wasn't necessarily a believer, nor was he searching for anything in particular when God spoke to him. He became a believer, at least in God, if not himself upon hearing the voice of God.
That research is interesting. It sort of makes sense I suppose. You hear stories of people who have...
