I was totally into horses and spent all my free time in the stable. Did some competing too for some years. Not anymore though. These days I consider it a sport to walk the five stairs to my attic appartment :)
What's the best and the worst job you can imagine?
You guys are the best! Thanks for all the great suggestions! And the great laughs :D ! It really helps to get other people's perspectives on something, because it's so easy to get stuck with your own ideas. You've come up with more ideas in a day than we've been able to do in a month! :) Please...
Hear, hear! I think my first year at university, studying classical archaeology, was the best year of my life (so far). I met the best people, many of whom I'm still close friends with, and had long, interesting discussions on everything, and flirted and partied and, well sometimes I studied as...
Me and mrkgnao are discussing the possibilities of starting an English paperback store in Gothenburg, but we're having trouble coming up with a proper name. We want a name that tells the customer what it is we sell, but we don't want anything as simple as "The Bookstore". We've come up with...
All the time, but I don't think it's worked a single time :( It's nice to stargaze though!
Do you play computer games, and if so, what's your favourite game?
I have noticed that too, and I honestly wonder what people are doing in this business if they don't like books? But it's the same with record stores these days, I think. Ask the salesperson about anything that's not on the charts and they stare at you like you're from a different planet: "Is...
Yeah, I remember that too. The last books were never as funny as the first ones where she was trying to learn how to ride and always got stuck with her flower-pressing cousin Cecilia. Those ones were great :)
Hi Bobo-lover!
First, I'm very sorry for your loss.
I read about you downloading stuff just to find out the lyrics were wrong, so I thought I'd post these links to sites with songlyrics. That way you can check them out before downloading. The are a bit annoying, with many popup windows...
I'm a bookseller. Actually, I work with mrkgnao. "Wait!" you say, "If both of you are always hanging around the forum, who does the work in your bookstore?". Well, that's anybody's guess:). Actually, I think we both subrscribe to the idea that all work and no play makes nice booksellers become...
Let me know what you think of this book. I've been picking it up from the shelves and putting it back several times already, and I can't decide if I have the energy to read it. It's not like I lack reading material...;)
I'm not completly sure where you're going with this snarky, but there is an enormous amount of books in which weird things happen in the real world: it's called low fantasy, as opposed to high fantasy where the world is made up. One of my favourites is Charles de Lint. Then there's the horror...
I totally agree with those of you who said you can never get to old for children's books. I'm 31 and I love them, and I plan to go on loving them for a long time :).
Some favourites of mine have been mentioned; Pullman, Rowling, Montgomery, Alcott. I really liked Mary Hoffman's Stravaganza...
I think your answer is right there: Some books are well-written, some lifechanging, some broadens your mind and some resonate with you and they're all good books, but the great books are those that cover more than one of those aspects, if not all. And that is obviously a very subjective...
Yes, I think I fall into that category, although I tend to like some animals better than others. In classical spinster tradition, I'm sticking with cats ;). But dogs are also nice, and horses. Ixnay on spiders and snakes and scorpions though!
In your oppinion, how far is it ok to go to change...
I had sort of the opposite problem with my two attempts at Anne Rice (The Mummy & The Vampire Lestat) - they were very easy to get into and really grabbed me at first, but about halfway in they suddenly lost all momentum, became longwinded and self-important, and I had to force myself to finish...
Wow, 10 kids! Now I know who I'll ask if I need any advice on children :).
I would go to New Zealand and I would probably bring my best friend. Or my mum, who's also one of my best friends. And then she could pay for the hotel ;).
If you were going to serenade someone, which song would...
