I'm not new here either, but I leave for months at a time, usually when life gets too busy to allow for leisure time. I've found the forum a bit dull lately too, but I think it's just that I'm not reading much at the moment.
I miss a lot of the older members from back when we were The Book...
I haven't read all of Dune, but according to my husband, stop after Chapterhouse Dune. He was very disappointed by the novels written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson. My husband would very highly recommend the Dark Tower series, as they are his all-time favourites.

I read The Hobbit the year The Fellowship of the Ring movie came out. With all the publicity surrounding the movies, it's actually amazing I didn't know about it.

I'm not really into romance or dark literature so I can't suggest too much, but you might want to check out some gothic literature. Daphne du Maurier is wonderful, Rebecca being...
Jane Austen is not a romance writer, at least not by today's definition of romance. Her literature certainly has romance in it, but the happy ending is a by-product of the characters learning some greater lesson, not the goal of the story. Pride and Prejudice, for example, it not so much a love...
You're absolutely right, I'm not arguing with you there - proper education is critical. But there's a big difference between teaching kids how to safely have sex safely and advertising sex to tweens. Who do kids look up to these days? Britney Spears? Lindsey Lohan? Paris Hilton? I'm not...
