Any recommendations for sword and fantasy novels?

I haven't read the Martin books, but I did read all of Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn Triliogy...which was a big time investment but fun all the same. I like Sanderson's magic system and he's generally upheld as an author that is very good at world building.

Douglas Adams: The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

This is one of the few books I didn't finish reading because I got bored. I was mildly amusing, but I just couldn't get into it. *shrug*

    Book recommendations for a preteen?

Vivian Vande Velde has some odd type books that are relatively kid safe. I liked The Cry of the Icemark by Stuart Hill. The first is better than the rest of the series. I agree with your son about The Golden Compass...thing just droned on and on. I grew up loving star wars books, both the...

    YA fiction is too dark

Realistic doesn't necessarily mean bad, but there are some parts of reality that it's nicer to skip, even for YA.

    Recently Finished

Ender in Exile (3/5 stars) Surprisingly semi boring audio CD to listen to. This is a post Ender's Game tale written fairly recently. All in all, not worth reading or listening to...just read the original story and enjoy that.

    Ashlynn's Dreams

Edition 2 just released. The kindle version will be free on Monday Feb 25 and Tuesday Feb 26, 2013. Otherwise, it's $1.99. The paperback, kitted with the spiffy new cover is $9.99. It's technically a YA science fiction book, but it's totally adult safe, promise.

    Taylor Stevens: Vanessa Munroe series

Just sort of stumbled across these in the library the other day and was impressed by the characterization. Has anybody else read this author? What do you think of her? Her own story is just as interesting as the book she wrote.

    College or Fantasy romances?

The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson would probably be better categorized as fantasy, not romantic fantasy, but there is romance in there...so, you could try that.

    Hi everyone.

Which genre would you like suggestions in? You can start a thread in the appropriate subsection or just ask here. I can help a little with science fiction, YA, some fantasy, mystery, Christian, thriller, but that's about it.

Mmm, I sympathize. My artistic skills are right around 0. It's good to have talented friends. Maybe try networking with artists. Cover creation is important; hard work too.
