Early Readers (Pre-teen & young adult)

My parents read to me...that's sort of how it all began. They even put up with re-reading things 100 times. Eventually, I started correcting 'em if they missread something b/c I'd memorized the books. The things parent's put up with :-P

    Suggestions Needed: Humorous Children's Fictions.

If you can do fantasy, Vivian Vande Velde has some books that are kind of funny.... at least whimsical.

    Recommendations wanted

I may sound like a broken record, but I'm a proponent of classic Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys (mid 90's series). Bean Trees might be kinda intense, but it was excellent. Ohhh, she might like Alexander McCall Smith's #1 Ladies Detective series. Wonderful books. Heir Apparent was also very good...

Age guidance label for children's books?

recommendations are fine. I don't see why they're bothering with most books. (BTW, Phillip Pullman's Golden Compass wasn't really a warm, fuzzy kiddie book ...IMHO, I would slap a 13+ label on that)

Books you would NOT SUGGEST to your kids. Why? At what age would you recommend it?

One of my favorite books: The Cry of the Icemark is great but I wouldn't say it's a "kid's" book. Probably recommended for age 13-14 (low end of YA?)

    Books by Author Rick Riordan

I heard most of the Percy Jackson series. I liked how he brought the myths into the world and worked them in.

    YA fiction is too dark

There's good YA and bad YA...true for any genre, so just choose the specific books you read wisely. And don't be afraid to put something down if you don't like it.

    Hello from Croatia

Hey. I think the rules pretty much say things like "be nice", respect others, share your thoughts, have fun, and keep promo stuff to the right places.

    First post

I think I read the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich....can't remember though. I don't generally go for non fiction stuff. Have you read Master Mind: The rise and fall of Fritz Haber, the Nobel Laureate Who Launched The Age of Chemical Warfare?
