The 2 parts were very different, I wonder if maybe he reworked the first half more than the second? Maybe since the book and Paul were representative of Lawrence's life, it was too difficult to rewrite the parts covered in the second half?
True, true, women's shelters often appreciate children's and women's books. Jails and hospitals too, especially hospitals with many long term patients. Large print books are always wanted at nursing homes. Children and teen books can go to group or short term foster care homes. If you are not...
Yes, I did too. And towards the end it seemed Gertrude did as well. She regretted that he would not be with someone once she was gone but she knew that it was too late for him, how sad.
Some of the interactions, besides her overbearing jealousy, between Paul and his Mother definitely crossed over out of the norm, some of the kisses he describes, the pet names he was calling her like My Love.
True and the entries linked above said Paul was always intended to be the main character, the book was at first named after him even if I remember correctly. I just wish there had been a little more wrap up on the siblings story instead of them just being dropped.

I have 1 other book by him here, The Lost Girl, and will try to read it soon. I would like to see how much of Sons And Lovers was his writing style and how much was the story.
So the Wikipedia entry on this book says that this work was semi-autobiographical and that Lawrence reworked 4 times. I think it's interesting that Lawrence may have had a similar relationship with his Mom. Sons and Lovers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I just finished and I must say I liked the first half of the book much more than the second half. At first I was very wrapped up in the story, even though none of the characters were particularly likable they certainly held my interest but as the book carried on and became more repetitive I...
Was Miriam the one that kept them from physical contact? It seemed to me that whenever she touched Paul he recoiled from her and started being cruel to her, she even said (spoiler can be safely read after finishing the Test Of Miriam)
Oh, I have lots but I do story time at the library too so I'll give some that have appealed to many kids. Here's a top 10 that I read. If you want more or a certain type just let me know.
