To My Daughter in...
See my hubby has a few history, military and poetry books he's had since we met and will never part with but as far as most books go he's a 1 time only reader. He mostly reads series though and they are so long that he can spend years on a series, I don't have the patience to even read them...
My hubby is that way too. He often gives his books away right after he's done with them and I tend to want to hang on to them but he never rereads and I often do. He also tends to stick with one book at a time and I usually have like 3 going, one up stairs, one down and one in my bag for...
I don't know if I would of stopped dating my hubby over books but one of the things I liked about him was how much he read. We don't often read the same books and that doesn't bother me. I don't think his tastes are better or worse than mine just different but it's nice when we do read a book...
I feel your pain I'm 50 pages in and while I don't hate it, I'm not really liking it either, I guess I'm really just indifferent to it. Were it not BOTM I'd chuck it.
I tried we were the Mulvaneys and Wonderland, I didn't really care for either. Something about her writing style in each just put me off, it's too bad too as many of her books had plots that intrigued me but I don't think I'll be getting any more by her anytime soon.
THIS IS THE story of what a Woman's patience can endure, and what a Man's resolution can achieve.

I really liked this one.
Hello & welcome,
Do you have a favorite genre? Or do you like a bit of everything? I am the latter. I hope you do enjoy yourself here and find many new books and conversations to feed your addiction :)
Maybe not, but I feel that if folks were so inclined offering the opportunity for comparison can help fuel the conversation and it's something that does not happen as much in the other threads. With a single book there is often other threads available for discussion of the book and this might...
I have my copy, I should be starting tomorrow, as soo n as I finish my current book. Funny I didn't see this thread until today but I just watched Little Children this week and they had a scene in the movie that was book group discussion about Madame Bovary.
I sort of liked picking an author of the month, like we did with John Irving, I liked the comparisons of the different books by the same author. We could do this with maybe a country of the month, a genre of the month, and era of the month and perhaps have 3 examples (these could be voted on) to...
I didn't mind the orange/brown look as much as some others, but I do like the current color scheme much better. It just looks fresher, brighter and more cheerful :) And I like the less cluttered look now that the side bar has been removed.
Like a lot of others, I check in from time to time, I may post once or twice a month and my reasons are the same as the others mentioned above, mostly the members I really liked discussing things with are gone or no longer posting, some of them I see at other forums but many just seemed to...
There's a couple that I have seen, The Cider House Rules (I really liked the book and the movie), The World According to Garp (the movie was ok, had Robin Williams in it) and A Prayer For Owen Meany was made into a movie called Simon Birch (I liked the movie a lot too but the book turned out...
