    Happy Birthday Stewart

It would just be our little way of saying you were missed, but since it's your Birthday this week and all I guess I can refrain:D

    Happy Birthday Stewart

I think we should plaster the place with Dan Brown threads, links to our recently published books and repetitive questions while he's gone:p

Movies I liked better than the books they were based on

I agree with Big Fish, the book wasn't bad but I didn't love it, I loved the movie.

Do you buy, borrow or take out from the library?

I do both, but I prefer to buy my books, for reasons like my most recent checked out book which someone had taken a black marker and blocked out large sections of the book complete with crazy rants in the margins addressed to the author as if she was one day going check out the same book. While...

    Romance?

I'm all for a good romance or erotic novel from time to time, I would probably read the threads if you set up a section for them Darren:)

Does reading books make you smarter?

Don't worry I think only a few are that picky and the rest of us are human and make mistakes too;) I think reading can help expand your vocabulary, I often look up words when I'm reading and learn new ones. Also if I come across something in a fiction book that interest me, I may do some...

What Have You Read in 2007 (List)

Usually if I didn't finish because I really disliked the book I leave a really low rating as well but some I just didn't finish for other reasons and will get back too. I should of removed the unfinished books when I copied the list here but it's too late to edit now.

What Have You Read in 2007 (List)

I don't think that was the book's fault, it was a library item and damaged, many pages were missing, if I remember correctly. I will have to order a copy I guess, we just have a small library here and items are often damaged or lost.

    Sara Gruen: Water For Elephants

I'm with you, I really liked the book but have no idea how to apply that question to the book. Of course I'm not all that good with biblical reference and comparisons.

How do you stop the innundating e-mails from this forum?

I think if you go to edit options in the user CP and in the second box you unsubscribe to threads it should stop the emails.

    Bookcovers

A few I've picked up simply because their covers caught my eye :)

    Andrea Levy: Small Island

I did get a bit of the sniffles at the end :) I see I'm rather late to the conversation but I just finished this book and really liked it. As many others have mentioned above, I thought the characters were excellent. I liked that while I didn't really like Benard or Hortense, I did feel for them...

Homer is spending Thanksgiving with his adopted family and they have their grandkids visiting. Because the house is crowded Homer has to share a bed with one of the Grandsons and the boy tries to bugger him, here's a bit from the book right after the boy asks Homer if he knows what buggering is...

John Irving - October 2007 Author of the Month

I remember at first after reading the World According to Garp, I was not sure if I liked it. It took me through many emotions and odd characters as Waveguide mentioned the Hotel New Hampshire did. I closed it and thought that was weird, as the weeks went by it stuck with me though and I liked...

    Do You Own a Gun(s)?

I have guns that have been in my family, my grandpa's service revolver, an old German automatic pistol and a little 22, I don't have bullets for them. We did sometimes take them to the range but bought ammo there, shot it there and didn't take any home. I also keep the guns locked away in a gun...
