I do both, but I prefer to buy my books, for reasons like my most recent checked out book which someone had taken a black marker and blocked out large sections of the book complete with crazy rants in the margins addressed to the author as if she was one day going check out the same book. While...
Don't worry I think only a few are that picky and the rest of us are human and make mistakes too;)
I think reading can help expand your vocabulary, I often look up words when I'm reading and learn new ones. Also if I come across something in a fiction book that interest me, I may do some...
Usually if I didn't finish because I really disliked the book I leave a really low rating as well but some I just didn't finish for other reasons and will get back too. I should of removed the unfinished books when I copied the list here but it's too late to edit now.

Homer is spending Thanksgiving with his adopted family and they have their grandkids visiting. Because the house is crowded Homer has to share a bed with one of the Grandsons and the boy tries to bugger him, here's a bit from the book right after the boy asks Homer if he knows what buggering is...
I remember at first after reading the World According to Garp, I was not sure if I liked it. It took me through many emotions and odd characters as Waveguide mentioned the Hotel New Hampshire did. I closed it and thought that was weird, as the weeks went by it stuck with me though and I liked...
I have guns that have been in my family, my grandpa's service revolver, an old German automatic pistol and a little 22, I don't have bullets for them. We did sometimes take them to the range but bought ammo there, shot it there and didn't take any home. I also keep the guns locked away in a gun...
