    Houseplants

Houseplants, I <3 them! Lately I have been collecting succulents because my work schedule makes me a bad plant tender. Is anyone else a fan of plants? Any favorites? Tips or words of warning?

    R.I.P. Neil Armstrong

Very interesting, I read a great book about the body farm called Death's Acre by Bill Bass.

    R.I.P. Neil Armstrong

I would maybe look for her at the library, to see how you like her writing style. My husband doesn't care for it, I don't mind it too much because her topics are interesting.

    R.I.P. Neil Armstrong

Yes, it was called, Stiff-the curious lives of human cadavers :) it was the first book of hers I got a hold of.

    R.I.P. Neil Armstrong

I just finished, Packing For Mars, by Mary Roach, it had some good insight into what it would be like to train for and go into space. Roach is not for everyone but amusing.

    Cultural differences

I love going to different places and experiencing different cultures, and they are always a bit different than expected but you always have some references, ideas and partial experiences due to Internet, movies, tv, even ethnic restaurants.

    R.I.P. Neil Armstrong

I wasn't here for the moon, but I do wish I had been. I think an Armstrong biography would be very interesting to read.

    Cultural differences

That was interesting, it's hard to imagine how exciting & scary it would be to go somewhere you have no concept/preconceived notion of.

    The Brontë Sisters

I am always forgetting about the other sister, Anne's, Tenant of Wildfell Hall,or, Agnes Grey, has anyone read them? I mean to, as I enjoyed the others so well and it amazes me that all 3 sisters wrote.

    Overrated Books

Peder, I think 50 is the perfect example of over-hype vs. over-rated. Now everyone feels they have to read it to see how bad it is, in this case it lives up to the hype it was horrible, haha.

    The Brontë Sisters

Meadow, I find it hard to take your tone sometimes. You seem to bring a lot of personal baggage into the book conversations. I think Anu's point is valid and about the book, yours seems almost a personal attack.

    The Brontë Sisters

Don't get me wrong, I was not very sympathetic to him, I found a lot that he did unforgivable. It is just a very good and true portrayal of a character. I also would not chose a romance of this nature in real life but part of what makes a good read is being transported and the Brontes did that...

    Overrated Books

I sometimes avoid books that get a lot of hype, because too many times they are a let down. I finish them and think, it was ok, but was expecting world altering based in what others were saying. Later I may even think it was probably good but the expectation of something better slightly spoiled it.

Maybe, A Wrinkle in Time (The Time Quintet), by Madeleine L. Engle? It did have 2 covers with pink writing.

Who is your favourite author, and why?

Bill Bryson, he Has yet to write a book I haven't loved. I buy his all books both in trade paperback and audio and enjoy them again and again. I even named my dog Bryson :)

    Forum shenanigans

Had I known there were spankings, I'd of let my hair down long ago ;)

    Ancient history

I do too, I am not sure if it's that Firebrand was my first but it has remained my favorite by her.

    The Brontë Sisters

I liked both books quite a bit, for somewhat different reasons, WH for the characters and JE for the atmosphere/mood. Wuthering Heights doesn't have likable characters but I enjoyed how unlikable they all were, how cruelty in Heathcliff's childhood made him completely sadistic in his revenge...
