    guilty viewing

Yes I will also admit to watching the Amazing race. There was a recent call out for Australian entrants. I have a friend who would have been perfect for it, but she had nobody to race with. I thought of another show to confess after my original post, Keeping up with the Kardashians. This...

    guilty viewing

A thread along these lines probably already exists, but out of interest anyone have any tv shows that they watch that they wouldn't normally admit to viewing?? I think I have quite a few..... Bold and the beautiful The bachelor/bachelorette The apprentice and there's probably more but...

Hi there, I much preferred PSS to King rat. I also posted about this on the 'Litany's genre swap' thread as it was my suggested genre book. I'm investigating the steampunk genre and have read a few books so far. I'm planning on reading all of Mieville's work. I think if you enjoy horror and...

    Litany's Genre Swap v 1.0

Well I finished my suggestion, King rat. Started off slowly for me but wasn't bad in the end. I don't feel it was as good as Perdido street station, and I could tell that it was his 'first' novel. The writing wasn't as fluid as PSS. Also I think that Mieville may have felt he had to...

    Grrrrrr (Coffee related content ITT)

I have one cup of coffee a day - strong latte - mid-morning. I'm really really anal about it and it really really annoys some people. That's cos the world stops turning until I get that caffeine into me - otherwise cranky Scribeswindow makes an appearance. I have been known to take my home...

September 2010: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

Last summer they did a repeat of House and I really got into it then so now I avidly watch it. I never picked up on the Sherlock Holmes connection - very interesting.....

    Steampunk

Mmmmm I got into Perdido street station right away. King rat is proving to be harder to get into. Only a couple of chapters in. Will keep going............

Do you let an author's personal views affect your reading choices?

Yes, it's all coming back to me now. Thanks for the link Peder. I think I had read about the first ten or eleven books of the Thomas Pitt series before I found out who she was and I just couldn't read her after that.

Do you let an author's personal views affect your reading choices?

I was really shocked too. I won't say her writing was particularly fantastic, but at the time I was following one of her series. She's written quite a lot. I should probably look her up again and check what she's written recently because it's been some years since she's been on my radar. I...

Do you let an author's personal views affect your reading choices?

Ever heard of an author named Anne Perry? She writes historical detective fiction set during Victorian times. I went through a stage or reading her novels when I was in my early twenties. Later I found out that she had been convicted of murdering her own mother (or it might have been her best...

    Agatha Christie

I went through a stage or Poirot too recently and couldn't get enough of them. Have you tried Miss Marple? I prefer Poirot, but I daresay you will also enjoy the Marple mysteries. In fact, I don't think there is one Agatha Christie novel I have disliked.

    Steampunk

I will be picking up King rat to begin tonight. This is also my suggested genre swap read. Will let you all know what I think. :)

:stars5:It's dull, grey and dreary outside and I finished Justice hall curled up nice and warm in bed. Gorgeous book. Set in a grand stately English house, following a mystery that pulled at the heart strings. This series featuring Sherlock Holmes and Mary Russell by Laurie R King just gets...

You're spot on Eva, there are lots of professionals in libraries these days who don't strictly have what could be termed a library qualification. To answer your question with regard to consulting, and to also elaborate a bit more on the 'shit year', technically I was a library technician but...

Thanks for the hat Will. :) The opportunity just presented itself and then steamrolled once we made the decision. It was the hardest thing I have ever done and looking back it seems surreal. Even the day-to-day actions of making espresso is something I don't do anymore (other than my home...

In 2002 my husband and I purchased a cafe with the intention of making it into a bookshop cafe. We had enough money to buy the business but not enough capital to add the books. Since I'd never worked in hospitality before we decided to run it as a cafe to get a feel of it and then expand the...

    Terminator the Sarah Connor chronicles

I think by season two it definitely got better. I found it quite suspenseful at time with the terminators. The story line concerning the three dots (season two) was tedious, but overall it was good.
