I used to loathe the Harry Potter series. Then Stephenie Meyer became famous and now I don't mind The Boy who Lived (still not a fan, granted).
Regarding classic books: I thought both Pride and Prejudice and Northanger Abbey were only okay. I really doubt I'll read more Jane Austen books...
When I saw David Sedaris give a reading in 2008, he signed two books for me beforehand: Me Talk Pretty One Day and Holidays on Ice. I also have a signed copy of Poppy Z. Brite's collection Guilty But Insane, but that book was purchased online.
I'm guilty of everything else but #10 :D. I also want to say I laughed when I saw The Almost Moon on the list of 25 unread books. I have eyed that book, but due to reasons #7 and #8 I haven't actually started it yet.
I do like the "moderator's picks" idea. ;).
Regarding short story anthologies, would we be reading collections from a single author or a book that collects pieces from different writers?
