Like seriously? Nobody watches movies here?
Ok, I recently saw my first movie in years, and it's Pacific Rim. It's Ultraman given the Hollywood treatment. It's Avatar with robots and monsters. Fun!
I had no idea what the film was about going in. My wife thought it was 'Pacific Rest', and did...
I have two mullers and I intend to read them! I have accidentally read the first couple of pages of the land of green plums and the prose is crazy. I can't read German like you, you lucky person you, but the translator is masterful. I don't know if its muller or the translator taking liberties...
Finished gatsby not too long ago, and didn't like it very much. It was one in my list of classics that I'm ticking off recently, and this one didn't grab me. Or should i say, *I* didn't get it.
Looking back at the threads, I miss some of the more astute members of our forums in the days gone...
I cannot judge by the first page. There were too many books I've read that has sucky beginnings that turned out worthwhile. Plus I'm a horrible judge of bad writing. But if there's a book where I can detect bad writing, then it's Kaiju Category 5 bad.
I didn't stop at the first page of John...
Recently finished:
1. Dark Market, Glenn Misha. Terribly disappointing, misleading cover summary, just generally a let down.
2. Moonwalking with Einstein, Joshua Foer. Wonderful book, great story, proof that I'm not alone in having difficulty in retaining most of what I read. Presented memory...

Was on a spree of classics. Didn't enjoy most of them very much, I have to say, although my recently finished Pride and Prejudice immediately bulldozed everyone else and settled very comfortably near the top of my very best reads. :)
I have a few that I haven't finished yet still, but am...
I'm on the tail end of Pride and Prejudice. A victim of prejudice myself, as I didn't think I'd enjoy the book. Goodness knows the recent rash of classics I've read have not be very interesting to me, but nothing has prepped me for the fantastic story that P&P was.
Funny and humane, lovely...
This deserves its own thread. I find the story strangely unsurprising. It was interesting to read about how she got 'critical' praise before being outed, and I personally would love to find out whether the praise was deserved or not (not that I'm so incredibly qualified, after all I did like her...
This hospital wing seemed deserted. She hated hospitals, and this is not helping. She swallowed, the hint of peppermint from the gum she chewed on the way here lingered. She couldn't remember which turn she took right after she exited the elevator. The nurse back at the main lobby mumbled...
