A question to all the Macbeth lovers!
When Lady Macbeth receives the letter from Macbeth (shortly before he gets back home and meets her for the first time in the play), where did you envision her to be at that moment?
I want to recommend a set of absolutely gorgeous pieces of iOS apps, namely the Shakespeare in Bits series. They currently have A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth.
Each of the apps feature the complete unabridged text of the play, an animated video of the whole play, voiced...
I've never seen a Malay translation for The Hound. Admittedly I didn't look very hard, but I'd think I'd at least *notice* Malay translations for Holmes stories.
Plus I have to say the words 'halibut' and 'Malay' being strung together in any semblance of structure (like say a forum post)...
One of Dahl's adult novels (I don't know if it's the only one, but surely one of the very few) is My Uncle Oswald, which I heartily recommend. It's about this caper with this character Oswald, "the greatest fornicator of all time", and his plans to make a fortune. The way he goes about doing it...
I liked it when Maggie Smith said, "What's a 'weekend'?" in one of the episodes with the newly anointed heir was dining with the family around the dinner table. At first I laughed, then realized that looked at in another way, I could actually have asked the same question myself over my work...
Hardbacks? Hmm... I'm learning further and further away from hardbacks now. Even if it's a great book, I tend to wait till it's out in paperback (except for authors in my exception list). I just cannot bear lugging around hardbacks. I'm becoming more delicate in my old age.
Mistborn for me was ok. I think. Wasn't terribly terrible. If you're up for my long-ish review (you know, to go with the theme of a long novel), jump here.
A quick excerpt from the post:
Books 2 and 3 are sitting on my shelf, so maybe one of these days.
I have read Elantris too, and...
Uhm. How exactly is this accomplished? What if it's a huge hardcover, and the flaps don't reach the middle of the book? Or do you take the whole thing out, fold it several times?
There should be a scientific study for this.
Outright porn? Looks like I've got to reread it again! Seriously though, there was only one part where it was sexually explicit, but it was heavily dosed with mental instability and scenes of childhood abuse. Very unsexy, and pretty tragic.
I don't remember much of lord of the flies beyond...
You know, Peder, you mentioned the holocaust, and it reminded me of Maus, another graphic novel, and it described the conditions of the camps. Nothing graphic was explicitly shown, but still the descriptions were quite horrific. If can only guess my reaction if I had read Maus when I was...
I learned about Battle Royale many years ago, but was in a sense put off by the premise of having schoolchildren kidnapped and isolated on an island somewhere, and forced to kill each other to survive. Sounded interesting, but didn't really like the idea of bloodbaths with children.
A quick...
I truly believe that our society nowadays, and especially with the promulgation of culture across borders in an almost instantaneous fashion, as increased our tolerance level to the amount of violence in the media we consume.
I was indulging myself in some violent graphic novel called Battle...
Well, you can certainly see... more. If you say the movie's fantastic, then supposedly the visual stimuli plays a part?
Unless, of course, they changed the movie's storyline significantly.
Finished all the currently out issues. Apparently it's not even close to being finished. Very unhappy to be left hanging, but then realized I've been strung along for many a series, either books or comics or TV series.
Anyway, wanted to quickly revisit my earlier comment: my view that the...
Reading Battle Royale manga series now. It's more interesting than I expected, I have to say. Will watch the movie after I'm done.
This made me grin. :whistling:
