I'm so glad someone mentioned Frankenstein because that is such a great one. I read Fahrenheit 451 a couple months ago and absolutely loved it! I've now added more of Bradbuy to my TBR list.
I've read Enders Game but I don't remember much about it - looks like it's time for a re-read.
I liked it - I was drawn in and a little disappointed when I got to the end. The only thing I was a little hazy on was the original setting. I couldn't figure out where he was until he thought that the chamber was too big for his apartment. And I kind of like that he's an unlikely hero...
My book club is reading the Chronicles of Narnia, which has been fun. We also read A Tale of Two Cities a couple months ago and that sparked some great conversation. My favorite one that we've done so far is Eat Cake by Jeanne Ray. It was the first time I'd ever heard of this author, but this...
I just spent a lot of my morning reading his blog - absolutely love it! He is such a great writer and even his daily posts have this magic about them. Good stuff.
My sister, my cousin, my friend, and I all really love Stephanie Meyer. For some reason I can't put my finger on, Bella is so intriguing. But she can be so irritating, too. Kind of like real people... And I really enjoy Meyer's writing.
I think 'safe' is the perfect way to describe Albom's work. They are nice and enjoyable and there's not really anything that someone could find offensive. I loved Tuesdays with Morrie but I don't know that I feel the need to read anymore of his work.
I just started in the middle of last year and I really like keeping my reading organized. I also included notes on what I thought of the book so I can decide whether or not to read it again in the future. I also keep track of the ones that I liked enough to want to purchase. It's interesting...
Cussler is always great for a little break from some of the heavier reading. I think Great Expectations will be the next Dickens I read, but I have a few in line before that.
Just by reading this thread I've discovered that the following were based on a book: Never Ending Story and Field of Dreams. The things you can learn on this forum...
I love them all, but not equally. I think Dawn Treader is at the top and probably The Silver Chair at the bottom. I'm sorry for those of you who can't appreciate Lewis, although I recognize that some may see his books as childish. A great writer, either way, though.
I suddenly feel like I'm way behind in my reading this year - it's just about April and I'm still working on my 7th of the year...
Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities is by far the best I've read this year. I've decided I need to read more Dickens.
I've only recently discovered the world of audiobooks and I've had good and bad opinions. For me it depends on the voice - I loved The Golden Compass with all the different voices for the characters. But I tried Empire by Orson Scott Card and didn't enjoy it as much. I'll continue to listen...
I don't generally like the movie covers either. If I'm buying a book I want to be able to keep it in my library for a long time and I don't want some actor on the front who really doesn't do justice to the original characters. In some cases it almost seems like the cover betrays the author...
My college library had that old book smell and I absolutely love it. I checked a book out last year from my current library (an old C.S. Lewis) and it smelled the same. I am sure that because it smelled so good I enjoyed it more.
