I hate twitchy eyes... it always makes me feel like I'm spazzing out. My eyes don't get weary, they just get dry. And occasionally I'll get a headache if I've been reading for too long. The only solution I've found is sleep.
I read Farewell to Manzanar for school - I didn't remember it until I read Irene Wilde's description. But now I remember that I really liked it. Of course, I'm one of those students who liked most of the reading I was assigned... weird, I know.
Watched Ghost Rider with Nicholas Cage last night. I liked it a lot.
Fantasy Moon - I watched Laura Croft yesterday. Good flick and my opinion always switches between the first and second one.
Two of my favorite (both a little cheesy):
What's the difference between mashed potatoes and pea soup?
.... Anyone can mash potatoes...
Where does the President keep his armies?
.... In his sleevies!
(I still laugh whenever I tell this one)
I'm in the middle of Martin's series right now and I really like it. I would recommend Robert Jordan's A Wheel of Time series if you haven't read it. It includes all the things you mentioned and it's also really well written. There are a couple of threads on it if you want more opinions.
My living room couch, in bed, or my writing couch (which I wrote a post about on my blog). I have no problem reading at home because I don't have kids, yet, or pets so it's usually pretty quiet. I also love to read when it's raining - it's just so cozy.
I've gone to Barnes & Noble several...
At first glance, I didn't see any that I have on my personal list. Most of them I haven't even heard of, but that doesn't mean much. I'll probably come back again and look at them more closely to see if there are any I'd like to read.
Welcome Starlight! I just graduated a couple of years ago and I did the same thing - I've been reading like crazy ever since. This is a great place to find new books and talk about the ones you've read. Have fun and happy reading!
I think I read for both reasons, too. I like to see my reading list spreadsheet fill up with all the books I've read. But I also like a good, deep, quality read. However, I'm also not very picky - I like anything that will entertain. So I guess my quality standard isn't set very high. Is...
Thanks for the recommendation, jcsoblonde - I just finished Till We Have Faces and really enjoyed it. I didn't even know that Lewis had written something like this - he's so great. I have yet to read Mere Christianity and The Great Divorce but they're both on my TBR list.
I'm a fan of the wooden ones. I like the way they smell... It can be irritating to use them because you have to sharpen them every so often, but I like the feel of it in my hand better than the plastic.
And I give this thread 5 stars.
I just had another idea for you. The Ruins of Ambrai by Melanie Rawn is fantastic if you want strong females. The series is set in a matriarchal society, so there are a lot of strong women characters. This is the first in her Exiles fantasy series and they're really good.
A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin - brilliant but mature
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston - warm and rich
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson - good
Mister God, This is Anna by Fynn - intellectual and spiritual
Dreaming the Eagle by Manda Scott - exciting
Till We...
