I agree that its a bit strange to have books to look at and not read. However, if I was able to get a first-edition or signed copy of one of my all-time favorites, I'd probably get it as a collector's item and not read it. But I would still keep my other copy to read and the signed one would...
Welcome to Book and Reader, Jabuka! I'm sure you will find what you're looking for here on the forums. I'm not much into non-fiction right now, but I know some of the others are. Have fun!
Yes, its part of the series called A Song of Ice and Fire. I think there's 4 books written so far and he's going for 6 total. There's a great thread on the series in the fantasy forum.
Its a good book and I really like Martin's style. But he's a lot darker than what I usually read, which...
Well, I just finished A Game of Thrones by Martin and rather enjoyed it. Now I'm working on Dragon and Phoenix by Joanne Bertin and I love this one. I really like dragons and Bertin's are fantastic.
Here are some of the other fantasy books I've read:
The Last Dragonlord by Joanne Bertin...
No one's posted here for a while, but I just finished A Game of Thrones and I had to say something.
I hated this book... while I was reading it... looking back... I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. Martin is brilliant! I can't believe the characters he's created - Eddard was...
Ooooh, Robert, I like that quote. Very fitting, I think.
The Dragonlance Series by Weis and Hickman got me started on fantasy, so they're dear to my heart.
Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan is the one I usually recommend because its so brilliant. Love it, love it. Great writing, great...
I am so glad we have a thread on Wheel of Time - I love this series! A friend in college recommended I read Eye of the World my junior year - my grades suffered that whole semester. I tore through the first 9 because that's all he had out at the time. Since then I've read them all again as...
I am also a big fan of Pride and Prejudice. I think all of Austen's books were written as much for the re-read as for the first time reader - there's always something new. I am always entertained and drawn in by Austen's language and wit. I often find myself laughing out loud at the...
Novella, when I read your first comment about tragedy being more valuable, I thought "That's so true," but by the end I was like "No, laugh in the face of fate!" This is an interesting little paradox.
My favorite is The Tempest. I didn't read it until my last year of college and felt like I'd...
Welcome MaryCathie! Looks like you've already got the swing of things. I'm also a big fantasy fan and the Fantasy forum is really great. See ya 'round!
Granted - but instead you sing a song totally comprised of profanity and the judges ban you to the darkest reaches of music-less HELL.
I wish I was going out tonight.
I'll read all the books in a series right after each other if I get into it enough. I went on a Clive Cussler spree for a while recently but got a little overwhelmed after about a month. Austen is also one of those authors that I can read a lot of, but that usually doesn't last long because of...
