As a child: Enid Blyton.
As a teenager: Charles Dickens, possibly.
As an adult: Vladimir Nabokov or Margaret Atwood or Bill Bryson. Possibly 5 or 6 of each.
I'll second The Hotel New Hampshire, because it's the only on this list I haven't read.
A Widow for One Year is good, too. Surprised nobody has nominated that.
I was beginning to have palpitations at not seeing her name. Surely the best by a long, long way, non?
Also love Regina Spektor, Joni Mitchell and Sinead O Connor. Jewel, Shivaree, Deborah Harry (Blondie), Diana Ross, Jenny Lewis. There will be many more.

1. Yellow Dog, Martin Amis
2. Lullaby, Chuck Palahniuk
3. Mercy, Jodi Picoult
4. Norwegian Wood, Haruki Murakami
5. Cosmopolis, Don Delillo
6. Mapping the Edge, Sarah Dunant
7. South of the Border, West of the Sun, Haruki Murakami
Favourite by far this month was Norwegian Wood, but...
Winter by Tori Amos. I think I might be a tad obsessed with Tori Amos.
If it must literally be a band, rather than an artist, then Von by Sigur Ros or Sanctis by Libera, though I probably have a ratio of 20:1 of solo artists to bands among my favourites.
I use Opera now as my main browser, because it's so much faster than Firefox and has the same features, and I like the transfers appearing in a separate tab rather than a small window (though you can maybe do that with Firefox too). Have had lots of problems with firefox recently, hence the...
