Vladimir Nabokov: Look at the Harlequins!

lol, that sounds familiar. A couple of weeks ago, I went to Amazon to buy Laughter in the Dark. Ended up forgetting that one but buying seven or eight others. Which means, of course, I need to go back. :D Oh, he should! Definitely. :D In that case I will believe him (oh, most...

Vladimir Nabokov: Look at the Harlequins!

Oh, so it's one of those... have you read Pnin, Gem? Anyway, I will definitely pick this up and read all about his wives. I love how Nabokov's characters always make disastrous choices in women. :D Oh, but if you think that's a long sentence, you should try Marcel Proust's Swann's Way or...

Vladimir Nabokov: The Real Life Of Sebastian Knight

Oh no, your hands are just as worthy! ;) Really, choose something. It's much more fun when there are several of us reading. :D Ooh, Pontalba, my uni library has Harlequins, must have another look at that.

Vladimir Nabokov: The Real Life Of Sebastian Knight

lol Peder, I so love your full-of-common-sense insights into Nabokovomania! :D I struggled through Ada (or Ardor) and will definitely need to reread that. Transparent Things is catching my eye, but I have a huge pile that I haven't touched. Despair is one... must get Vera, keep forgetting...

Movies you could watch a thousand times

List of reasons, here. Oh yeah, me too, but since I change my mind all too frequently, and am procrastinating, I thought I'd post mine again. :D

    Randomness! Yay!

Aww, it will you know! ;) :D Very true, though I'm neither buying a house (uh uh, no way, never ever again) or living in London. But best of luck with that househunting, lol, sounds as if you'll need it. :)

    what books made you cry?

lol, me neither. Poor Sharon, though. First she lost Tom in that fire... And Mark Fowler leaving was very sad. Nana Moon was the worst though, that episode (or was it a week's worth of them) where she relived her life. Poor, poor Alfie. Awww! :o

    Randomness! Yay!

lol Gem. Fearless, you are. ;) Ants are so cool. You just boil the kettle and pour it over them, problem solved. :D I feel exactly the same about the dog thing. Those teeth! Eeek! Besides that, the first time I got bitten by a dog (of the twice in one day thing) it didn't even actually...

    what books made you cry?

Since I am hyper-emotional  and insist on reading books where a character is facing a personal (to me) issue, I have cried through many books. Older examples: Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Anne Frank's diary, The Color Purple by Alice Walker, some of Joyce's stories in...

Good novels you recommend that were published in the last 5-10 years

Do those have authors? Agree with Yann Martel's Life of Pi. It's quite unique.

    Randomness! Yay!

Yes. That happens a lot, and usually they are really obscure words that you don't normally see/hear all that often. A couple of weeks ago I learned what the word muse meant, and since, have seen it at least thirty times. The biggest coincidence would be if there were never any...

Movies you could watch a thousand times

:D Films I have watched a thousand times (but hey, who's counting?): Dirty Dancing Annie Grease The Birds Marnie As Good as it Gets I am Sam Simon Birch Edward Scissorhands Films I could: Battle Royale, even though it's hideous Tokyo Story Either Lolita Stigmata

    Any ideas?

I have to agree with Muggle, here. If their stay is definitely not going to be semi-permanent (I have had temporary guests who've decided they don't want to go home afterall) then I wouldn't do or say anything. If you really do need them to go, then the idea of accompanying the adventurous...

    A couple of poems...

How old are 8th grade students? Muggle, I can understand why you're proud of your granddaughter and feel that Stewart's and Novella's comments are a personal attack, but I'm sure they aren't. I've read your granddaughters poem and it's very good. It would be very good at whatever age she'd...
