Savage Garden's Truly Madly Deeply. He knows all the words. So do we all by now I'm sure. He only knows that, Jet's Are You Gonna Be My Girl, whoever's Heard It Through the Grapevine, and the Black Eyed Peas and Lada GaGa.

Will monkeys really type Shakespeare if given enough time?

I hadn't heard that actually. :flowers: But I agree with your er, scientific study suggestion.

My flatmate is listening to the most horrible English music (he's Spanish) and now I want to stab him or something. Thought I'd share.

    Hello everybody

Do zebras not get ulcers? Oh. Well I've yawned whilst reading this thread. I like it - it means I'm empathetic, or something. I like the neurological explanations and definitions. I won't pretend to understand but it's interesting. Nice list of favourites, too, yawn.

    Dexter (Showtime Series)

I watched the first couple of episodes when sparky finally got Showtime and watched Dexter and liked it and recommended it. I'm impressed too.

Are you happy with this forum?

I think it's pretty busy round here at the moment. It's certainly had quieter periods. I don't know the forum anymore, but since when has that stopped me commenting? So yeah, I'm happy with the forum. Not happy enough to practically live here, like I do at a different forum. But I don't know...

I am Officially Changing my Name (maybe):

Muy bien, Carl Rivers. ETA: Oh, you're reading Lolita. Please let us know how you enjoy that. It's one of the forum's most-loved books.

    100 Decade-Defining Books

Hey Peder. Nice to see you too. :D I agree with you, too. I'm younger than you, so regard different things as decade-defining. For example, whilst you retired from employment, I left school and entered the world of work, left the parental home, got married (and divorced), became a university...

    Well hello there

Hi Sam. The outdoors is indeed fascinating. Welcome here - I hope you find lots of interest to you.

I am Officially Changing my Name (maybe):

Go for them all. We like middle names here, and it doesn't matter if they're the same name. There are countless Ian Shauns, for example. So, Carl Charles Charlie Chuck Rivers. I'd maybe leave out the Charlie. It's a (slightly common, fashionable) girls' name in the UK.

    100 Decade-Defining Books

I think some of the books in the list touch on the topics you considered decade defining, Peder. Particularly with regard to the terrorism attacks and worldwide militant terrorism. It's nice to see Stuart: a Life Backwards by Alexander Masters making the list - I thought that was unique, and...

A book about a doctors experiences..

Probably way more fictional than you want, but John Irving's The Cider House Rules is based on an orphanage run by a doctor.

    Help! mnemonics anagrams

I don't understand what anagrams and mnemonics have to do with each other. My Very Easy Method Just Saves Us Naming The last word used to be... Planets. Now it makes no sense. Why do you need to do this Aquablue?

How far ahead do you plan your reading?

I plan. I don't stick to it much, but I still plan. When I came to Spain three months ago, I brought two English language books with me, so I planned to read those. I haven't read them yet. Like Polly, I'm studying literature modules, so my reading is pretty much set with regards to that...

    A Bestseller You Hated

Setting books on fire? Wah?! Uh, this thread looks familiar. I agree with Sofia's Atonement. Almost anything by Ian McEwen, even. Disagree with almost everything else. Twilight. Uh, a few months back I was forbidden to read that series by a real bibliophile, so I'd best not comment. The...

    POLL: Types of Readers

This one. While you expect everyone to fall into the 'Other' category, I see everyone - here, at least - as belonging to the 'Not only do I read a lot, but I am into book clubs and online book forums as well.' one. After all, this is a book forum. Maybe you should survey people in libraries...
