Vladimir Nabokov: The Real Life Of Sebastian Knight

Firstly, who wuzzit? Tell me! ;) Secondly, 1899 is the birth year for both SK and our Vladimir Vladimirovich himself, could we take it there is an element of autobiography in this book? Of course, since Nabokov was well and truly alive at the time of writing, I mean that figuratively. An...

    Vladimir Nabokov

Yay Peder! I am making my way over to the new Nabokov lounge as we speak. I will bring a bottle of wine and whatever our Sebastian will be having, and drinks for the rest of you, of course. And I'm so pleased about the blue.

    What books have you hated?

I thought all of those were good. Great, even. I hated The Fifth Child by Doris Lessing. Also, Lucky by Alice Sebold (The Lovely Bones is a close one too), and The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. That's all I can remember right now, but there will be many more.

    Vladimir Nabokov: Lolita

But Humbert the Horrible wasn't a weirdo! Unless you mean dear old Mr Haze. I looked through too, and could find nothing except that Lolita had a brother who died when she was two years old! Now how did I miss that the first ten times I read Lolita?

Novels where the main character has a social phobia/anxiety

I agree with Monkey Catcher. For all a person with an autistic disorder has a different rationale for being scared of people, the outside world, life, whatever it is... it's still a fear with exactly the same characteristics as someone without the autistic disorder has.

    Vladimir Nabokov

Why thank you so much, Pontalba. Don't have quite enough books... Though actually, that does look great. I really, urgently, desperately need Stacey Schiff's Vera, too, but I daren't buy any more books since I really have nowhere to put them... But yes, that looks great. Why didn't the UK...

Start the thread, I'm reading it right now, the thread will make me continue to do so (just general blahness regarding reading anything at the moment, not our Sebastian). I can't wait for the next Nabokov installment. :D

Right, finally, I have managed to find the translation stuff... well you didn't tell me it would be in huge lettering on the first page ;) Haven't seen the film. Didn't even know there was one actually, Pontalba. Will look out for it. :D

    Forum Etiquette PMs

In that other thread, abc made a suggestion about another forum she visits whereby upon joining you are sent a friendly PM welcoming you to the forum, and containing a few hints on settling in. As the majoriy of bookandreader misunderstandings seem to stem from people posting duplicate...

    Vladimir Nabokov: Lolita

Um... it's a Penguin and it has a picture of Jeremy Irons on the front. I haven't a clue really, it's an old version, I think. I stole it from my mum.

What the Hell?! Post deletion blows!

And now we get to the real truth of the matter. This forum is only concerned with its appearance to newcomers, rather than keeping its current members as well.

What the Hell?! Post deletion blows!

I have refrained from posting in this thread so far, but as one of the members whose posts were deleted, I am struggling to see how any of the posts in that thread infringed the Membership Agreement posted above. The posts weren't hateful or harassing but were merely our viewpoints.
